Easy drive unless you go to Silver Creek Rd. Then it is moderate to hard. Very narrow and challenging to navigate in spots. 2018 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk

If you are looking for just the route listed it is pretty simple and nothing crazy. Any vehicle can do it pretty much as long as they are 4WD or AWD... maybe even 2WD. The main road is about 50% just dirt road and the rest is rocky but not crazy as long as you go slow. If you want to actually go off road driving for sure have better clearance and 4LO AND get a MVUM map to be able to see what roads are able to be driven. FYI... any of the numbered roads are forest roads and accessible. Can easily spend hours out here just searching around and going up and down the different roads.

Don’t be fooled by the gravel road. Took my RZR 1000XP Turbo out and had a blast on all the trails that branch off the road. Will definitely be going again!!

June 1. The road is in great condition. The entire route on AllTrails is free of snow. However, if you're going up to Dakota Hill, there is still snow on the last few switchbacks, and the road is impassable at this point (12"-18"). Also, there is a Buick SUV that is stuck in the middle of the road about 6.5 miles up from the 119 turnoff (with a ticket dated May 12) but other vehicles seemed okay getting around it. *If this is your Buick, please go pick it up!

1/1/19 Went off-roading. The road up is covered in snow and not hard to navigate. Once you get to the top. It’s ice Covered in snow. I was in a Chevy Colorado ZR2 woth front and rear lockers and 33” tires and I got stuck very quickly. There were 4 dudes in big jeeps who also got stuck. Outside of winter I’m sure this trail is easy. For now, I would not recommend going unless you have a winch and a buddy.

First 3/4 of the trail is easy. The last part I decided to air down to cut through the snow a little easier. Stock '16 Frontier Pro 4x. Had fun blasting through the snow. Not a bad trail if you're a beginner, but the more experienced off-road driver would find it a bit boring. Beautiful view up top though. Side note: If you're coming up here to do some shooting PLEASE pick up your casings and targets.

Nicely groomed road. Would not only come here for this road. This is a good trail to get back to the highway after doing other trails in the area. I took this after Pickle Gulch.

Basic dirt road up, but head a bit further to Utah Hill and hit some of the forest roads off of Apex for more fun.

Would recommend this to anyone able to drive the trails with decent clearance and four wheel (although we didn't need it much) We jeeped it, very gorgeous views, also getting out and hiking around with our dogs @thecoloradogs was a blast and they enjoyed everybit of it. Give us a follow on Instagram and check out some of our adventures, maybe it'll help ya choose your next trip!

Easy off road trail. We live here half the year, so we give directions in this area a lot

The beginning of the trail is very open and not much to look at (starting at the south end). However, as the trail goes north it gets more interesting. We took an offshoot to the Mammoth Gulch Reservoir which has plenty of camping. The ghost town of Apex seemed unfriendly(a lot of posted signs) so we turned around and didn’t check it out.

Confirmed from Andrews experience. Went today and didn’t get very far after that first big switchback. Don’t get stuck, wait a few mor weeks! Update May 28. Road is free of snow and was a great ride up to Dakota Hill! Took moon and gamble on the way back down to Rollins. Recommended!

Headed up April 14th 2018 through Apex road, made it after the switchback and a little up the road there was a turn around followed by another snow cover unmaintained road. We headed up the snowy road for about .25-.5 miles. Got stuck in a snow drift and had to call AAA to come pull us out. 8 hours later we made it out. Tow truck had lots of trouble even with chains getting up to where we were. I m the dummy for not waiting.

very mellow, just a dirt road really. you can cut a couple switchbacks short and these are steep but easy climbs. not many real obstacles around. didn't realize this is where moon gulch pops out and so we went to gamble, which has insane views. went by the shaft house and just headed downhill at every intersection from there. i have a moon and gamble gulch video up at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTfW0PxocJc&t=4s 07 ranger manual bilsteins 13psi 33" no lift no locker no sway bar youtube trail channel: b roll offroad have fun!

Nice scenic road, leads up to back side of Pickle Gulch trail. Pretty drive up to see the snow today!

The people who say this is a boring, easy trail clearly didn't get off the main road. When you do, there are many, many amazing trails of varying difficulty to explore. We were in the keep for hours and never even got close to the top of the main road! We are going back again to explore the area some more!

Just a dirt road. Nothing of interest. Lots of private land. Would recommend changing rating to "easy".

Fun, relatively easy to drive trail that gets steeper towards the end. There were a couple little offshoots that were a little more technical. Overall took about an hour to go up and back

just a compacted dirt road leads to private residence nothing special. towards the end (pass a gate) there is a little hill that can be climbed and over looks the valley below. overall nothing special.
