I missed the part where it said “scramble, but I made it up through the hard part. Then I watched a small elderly dog tumble off a steep high embankment. I decided to not double back. It was pretty easy to work my way back through side trails. Dog is fine BTW, but owner may not be having such a good day.
For me it was really a small dog friendly hike. Path is narrow at some points. But if you have bigger dogs this hike is for you. Happy Hiking!!!
Really narrow and we took a wrong turn and had to scoot down. Trail not clearly marked. Will try again another day. It is gorgeous!
Great hike. Really adventurous for the kids. Not too long and great view at the end
Dude, as someone who hasn’t really hiked, not a moderate trail lmao. But if you make it to the top the view is gorgeous and the creek is magnificent
Surprisingly fun trail that mostly follows a steep creek edge, then breaks into an easy wide trail leading to fantastic views of the bay. Great for fearless, friendly dogs (like mine!) not great for reactive dogs because at times the narrow trail forces you to pass in close proximity to others. There only unpleasant part was when I had to pass within inches of a lunging, barking dog who was reacting to my dog, hoping that he wouldn’t push me over the steep-enough-to-break-something edge of the trail.
lovely trail. I enjoyed hiking while listening to the sounds of the stream alongside me. it seems like a popular trail due to the amount of broken glasses I see at the top. it's a shame to see the abuse people have towards something so beautiful. there is quite an incline but totally worth the view at the top
The trail is right between medium and hard, sections that are narrow and muddy present technical challenges. That said it's beautiful and you can enjoy the first 1/2 mile of creek no problem
Awesome hike that starts with a forested trail along the creek and ends with a pleasant plateau overlooking Oakland. Not sure why there are so many complaints about the condition of the trail. Yes, it required a bit of caution and good shoes at times, but we had no problem navigating it with a 3yo (had to hold her hand at times near steeper dropoffs).
I came here with my dog and 2 kids on a Wednesday. There are many small waterfalls along the trail. It's beautiful and green. We passed maybe 3 people with their off leash dogs. I would not recommend that trail for kids under 6 since it is very easy to slip and the trails at times narrow.
This trail looked beautiful -- under the redwoods, teetering over the edge of a rushing stream. 4 stars for beauty; 0 stars for the HORRIBLE condition of the trail, which was narrow (very, very narrow) and slippery and simply sloped off into the mini-ravine at points. The point at which I became most keenly aware of this was the point, not far into the hike, where my otherwise careful dog SLID OFF THE TRAIL -- both back paws dangling into the void, with me and my daughter grabbing her front paws (after she threatened to slip out of her collar, which my daughter first grabbed) and dragged her back up to safety. After that we turned around and got the hell out of there, so can't speak to the rest of this scary trail.
