Ya-Gub-Weh-Tuh Trail to Big Sandy Creek Bridge is a 5.3 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Auberry, California that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and running.
This was a delightful spring hike of approximately 5.1 miles out and back thought undulating meadowland resplendent with an amazing variety of wildflowers (29 species by our count!). After a brief gentle uphill the trail turns to follow the direction of the river, taking us though several gullies with tiny streams before descending closely alongside the river. The river emerges spectacularly on the descent and becomes easily accessible as you approach the Big Sandy Creek footbridge which we chose as our terminus. Just prior to the bridge we traversed a branch of the creak which is concealed beneath a jumble of huge boulders. Caves are reported to be in the vicinity. Altogether this was one of our favorite hikes of this spring and perhaps our favorite in the San Joaquin River Gorge. The flowers were incredible.
Decent number of people out. Bridge was cool. Could get hot on a warm day
Nice, well-marked trail. Not many people - a few bicyclists and fewer hikers. Very little shade, so something to keep in mind for summer.
