HikingGreat!

Confusing as heck! But once you finally figure out how to get on the trail and stop walking in a small loop, it’s a really nice walk through the woods. We visited during mild weather in October and the hike was shaded about 90% of the way. Nice steady incline/decline that would be comfortable for most hikers. Continue reading if you want some details about starting and staying on the correct trail. We had the AllTrails map open, and even then had a tough time navigating the unmarked path: The trailhead begins at the small trail sign about 30 yards in from the parking lot, to the right when looking at the large park sign. As you follow the path up through the trees, you will reach a fork less than 1/8 mile in where you can go straight, or go up a less worn path to the right that goes steeply up into the hillside. Our first mistake was continuing straight. Instead, take the path up to the right, and stay to the right to continue on the trail. From here, you won’t encounter any more diverted paths for at least another mile and it’s a nice relaxing, fairly steady incline. The next fork you reach, you’ll want to stay to the left, although that was pretty obvious for us as someone had placed logs blocking the other direction. Towards the end of the hike, you’ll be spit out on the paved road that starts at the parking lot but you won’t need to take the road all the way down. Begin your final descent by going left down the paved road, when the road curves you’ll see a clearing straight ahead with a small trail. Follow the path and stay to the right to make your way back through the forest, eventually you will find your way back to the first fork where you took the steep path up, but this time you’ll continue on straight and end back down at the small trail sign. Congratulations! You finished the trail without getting lost.

It's a very pretty trail, but confusing. There are several paths and no signs to let you know where you are.

I did this trail with my wife, 11 year old son, and 6 year old daughter. With this setup, it is NOT 45 minutes. Took about 90 minutes with water stops, complaining, and a couple wrong turns. The trail is very poorly marked and you’ll never up taking some side trails till you realize you’re going the wrong way. You should definitely keep your GPS and all trails map on. Start up the paved road and go to the right at the top. Then when you get to the part where you say “why am I heading back toward the parking lot”, turn around and find the small trail that goes steeply up the hill. It’s a lot of vertical till you get to the top. Then the way down is easier if you actually find the right trial. Either way, as long as you’re heading downhill, you’ll make it back. Trail has decent shade for the middle 1.5 miles. Exposed the first 0.25 and final 0.25 Again, 45 minutes is minimum with an athletic group but unrealistic otherwise. (I run spartan races and 45 minutes would have been a decent goal for me).

Trail not clearly marked. Too many side trails. Best to have the AllTrails App to make it.

Mostly pretty though trail to left at start is exposed and just on pavement or graded dirt for the initial climb which isn't very pretty. The only view of the lake was a very small window in between the two peaks.

Nice short trail . Plenty of shade. Just a little tricky to find the start point. Go on the pavement road for a bit, and by the little hill make a right and go through the bushes a little bit and you’ll be right on the trail

Went with 8-year old and 80-year old. Everyone enjoyed even if we had to take breaks. Went once 8am - quite shaded. Went another time at 1pm and not shaded much. It’s a big incline but shady and diverse enough to distract. I like the loop so you push through.

Nice hike today with the wind shifting the El Dorado Fire smoke away from the area, but no blue skies as the upper atmosphere was smokey. Love being in the trees up here, good variety. Saw a beautiful coyote mid day. Don't miss the peek-a-boo view of the lake which is about the half way point and visible on the All Trails mapas the stem that loops out towards the 189. The elevation gain on the switch backs is harder than most "moderate trails". End the hike and take a moment at the veterans memorial, marked by the flags across from the golf course in the trailhead parking lot.

Beautiful trail surrounded by trees and filled with nature. The beginning and end have a strong sound of the road below but that’s to be expected. There are no Mountain View’s, only the views of the forest surrounding you. We got there at 730am and was empty, perfect time. Not strenuous at all but very pleasant.

Very good hike!!! We went around 5:30pm. Be cautious of coyotes as we saw some but they had no interest in us but just to note.
