I used to do the first section 3 times a week purely for exercise. It is probably the ONLY reason I would ever recommend it. The beginning uphill is rocky, unshaded, and straight to the point. Sure its rewarding once you hit the peak, but then you gotta walk back down the damn thing.

It’s a good elevation gain about 1000 ft, some steep, and loose rocks , but beautiful view at the lookout !

A little rocky and steep incline in the first 20 minutes, but all worth it with it’s beautiful vistas.

This map is actually starting on the Canyon Overlook trail, and I then went around and behind lizard rock, and then down on the lizard rock trail to the road... and then back up. Just a quick training hike - was a little muddy due to recent rain.

We did this walk late fall which is great as the trail was tough and the cool weather helped. I wouldn’t say it’s easy, it’s a steep rocky ascent. Nonetheless the trail is easy to follow and great way to get into these mountains. I’d definitely be back if I’m training for something :)

Started great with the sun blocked by the mountain but got really hot very fast. We takes about alien stuff on the hike.

Nice trail for getting in shape with gear for longer overnight trails. Also close to home.

My husband and I are beginners and this was only our second hike. It says it is easy but definitely not easy. First full mile is uphill on a very rocky trail. A little downhill after reaching the top but not much. No trail signs so we never really reached any loop. Ended where the bigger trail merged with it. Out and back was really 4 miles not 3. Good workout but definitely not an easy trail.

The inclines combined with the recent rains makes this a very rocky and washed out trail. Ergo, I’d give this hike 3.5 -4 stars. However, also because of the rains, the views are beautiful this time of year. GREEN GREEN GREEN! Many wildflowers of so many colors. Golden Poppies are growing in some lower areas along the road you can see from above.

This trail begins at the trailhead at Rancho Conejo Playfields. It follows the canyon rim for some flowy, roller-coaster riding culminating with a downhill fire road into the Santa Rosa Valley. The downhill is fast and rutted from recent rains. Great scenery, not much shade, and a few challenging hills and rocky stretches. Overall a fun ride that requires a little bit of technical knowledge but not too much.
