Wildcat Peak is a 3.4 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Berkeley, California that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and nature trips and is accessible year-round.

January 14, 2021Wooded trails, pretty, lots of eucalyptus groves, pretty steep inclines. Dirt trail with some mud. Good views of the bay after you get to peace grove and beyond / at the top.

November 26, 2020November 6, 2020A really lovely moderate hike to do in berkeley! The trail is generally well shaded until you start reaching the top quarter of the trail. it is also well marked. i went on a thursday morning in early november and it was the perfect temperature, definitely strongly sunny towards the top, and i only saw a handful of people more towards the bottom of the hike. everyone was wearing masks. You starts out by entering a quiet residential neighborhood in the Berkeley hills. Note that the trailhead is slightly further away from the park entrance as the main parking lot is closed. You can set your maps app to "Tilden Little Farm" or "Indian Camp Parking Lot." there's a small, around 10-space lot at the park entrance. You start the hike off by gradually climbing through a fragrant forest of eucalyptus trees and evergreens. you pass jewel lake, a small body of water surrounded by trees. a small one way path detour provides a small wooden bench to pause and a view of more greenery. it's a pretty gradual climb in general, no real slippery parts, and definitely moderate. eventually, as you ascend above the woods you start to the bay peeking out behind the hills. finally, you reach the top of wildcat peak for some sun and to appreciate the payoff - sweeping, gorgeous views of the bay area and the bridges.

We missed the turnoff point so continued down to the Conlon trail, thinking we'd get to the peak that way, but because it was closed ended up returning to the turnoff point and taking Wildcat Peak as planned. Just read the signs! The trail is narrow at times and mostly sunny, but has sweeping views after a couple switchbacks. We made it in running gear, on the easy side of moderate.
August 1, 2020July 30, 2020This place is awesome! If you want to feel like you’re getting away from it all, this is it. It’s it’s more moderate than easy. First half is uphill the second half is downhill, but it’s a great great great hike.

March 25, 2020March 25, 2020This is a fabulous hike! We got a bit of rain which provided muddy/slippery trails in some areas. The top of Wildcat Peak offers the best view of the Bay Area that I’ve ever seen! The kids said it was a tough hike - but the views made it worth the work. A word of caution: lots of poison oak here so be on the lookout.
February 17, 2020Wonderful trail at just the right level for my mom, 11 yr old, and 7 yr old. Gorgeous views on this clear day from Wildcat Peak as a reward. Feeding the animals with lettuce and celery as reward #2. Feeding ourselves with some yummy food in Berkeley afterwards as reward #3!
July 4, 2019You get a little bit of everything: forrest woods, open cattle fields, mountain views, city views, flowers and wildlife. Couldn’t have asked for more, so beautiful!

First to ReviewThis trail was a nice surprise right here in our backyard. Plenty of parking even with a mid-day start. We went counterclockwise up Laurel Canyon which provided good shade and then back down Wildcat Peak trail which had awesome views of the bay. There’s a monument up at the peak to sit on and soak in the views. Great little trail that I’ll bring visitors to. Btw, we took a side trip up to Nimitz Way and Conlon trail just to scout things out.
