Forester was nice, mosquitoes, went for a reasonable swim in the lake, after Rusty suggested I go jump in a lake.

Had a great time on the White Chief section of our trip this year. No snow to speak of, few mosquitos limited to a few hours a day. Middle section of the hike was the toughest but a gradual start and an impressive end easily made it worth it. White Chief mine entrances are your reward and if you have any amateur geologists, this hike should be a goal. Amazing rocks abound. Plenty of marmots looking for snacks, too.

Absolutely beautiful, serene trail. After the first steep section the trail levels out, and it makes for a moderate day hike. Bugs weren’t bad and because of the elevation it was nice and cool. Spectacular views of the mountains or the canyon the whole way and plenty of beautiful foliage. At the end there is a waterfall and another trail/rock scramble that continues up toward the lake and old mine. Only saw three other groups all day. Took ~4 hours with lots of picture taking, a leisurely lunch, and the added rock scramble at the end. One of my favorites in Sequoia so far.

Just did this trail on July 10th 2019. beautiful. The trail head on mineral king road had many cars tarped due to marmot activity. The beginning of the trail closely follows the river and has 2 very safe water crossings. The beginning of the trail is relatively easy and has relaxing views. after the 1 mile when you reach the junction sign to climb up to white chief, the trail becomes very steep and challenging due to the incline. there is no real rock scrambling, and the trail is very well maintained. The best part is that it is a steady uphill crawl laterally on the side of a mountain with the mineral king valley on your left the whole way. it is so nice not to have ANY switchbacks. when you reach the top of the mountain there is a rocky outcrop and plateau with a nice view. many redwoods up there. Follow the trail around to the left and it opens up into white chief canyon. The view in this canyon is the best I have ever seen. Immaculate. There is some snow, but not where you are walking. many marmots running around and little streams. It is a paradise up there in the canyon, come prepared to spend about 45 mins or so hanging out in the area. This trail took 2 hours to get to the top and just over an hour to get back down. reccomend taking your time as it is beautiful at the top. We will definitely hike this again. No wildlife spotted on trail other than marmots. Great hike if you are staying off mineral king road.

Great views and today the ice is still a cave at the end :) . Hard hike after 1st mile as you pass fork. Its steep from the fork until old cabin. Awesome Hike for newbies.

An amazing trail, a pleasant surprise to find a snow cave cutout by the runoff.

I've hiked this trail twice. Once in July and another time Labor Day weekend. It is a beautiful hike but even more so in July when everything is greener.
