A short hike reaching the impressive 220 foot cascading waterfall that is Whiskeytown Falls. Whiskeytown National Recreation Area has been a popular destination for many years, and Whiskeytown Lake's 36 miles of shoreline boasts great opportunities for fishing, sailing, kayaking and waterskiing. Hikers are now finding the park in increasing numbers, and many are finding their way to Whiskeytown Falls. For several decades this series of waterfalls over 220ft in height was a closely guarded secret, and possibly so secret according to reports that at one time the National Park Service might have actually misplaced its location. Today it's hard to miss the signs leading to Whiskeytown Falls, which lie just a few miles west of the lake on Crystal Creek Road.

Beautiful hike! Falls are spectacular and well worth the mostly uphill climb. Early morning was nice and cool and seems would remain cool throughout the day.

Amazing! These falls are beautiful and really flowing at this time (late April). The hike is steep for most of the trail and is a good cardiac workout. Your efforts are well rewarded when you see the falls.

This is a great trail. It mostly goes up though not like in the description in the top (up and half way there down) and it is a pretty steep. I'd say it's still pretty good for families with kids and dogs but I don't recommend it for older folks. The waterfalls are gorgeous especially in the spring after the rainfall and when the snow starts to melt but make sure to bring a sweater it gets pretty cold by the falls.

Beautiful scenery not too hot in April and not too cold. For those not used to steady inclines take your time. the Falls at the end of trail are worth it.

The hike up to the falls was hard. The hike down was moderate. It was a great work out. The view IS WORTH IT!

A short climb (about a mile and a half to be exact) but pretty the entire way. Surrounded by water and the sounds of it. And then you get to the falls and it becomes a miniature version of the mist trail with the slippery stairs and the water spray! Very pretty!

Murphy (my dog) and I recently moved to the area and immediately found the Whiskeytown park very friendly to dogs. This trail was short but sweet. A terrific workout, well marked, challenges in the intermittent hills. We try to trail run mostly and this was very safe and very fun. Too late in the year (New Year's Eve) to get to access the final stretch to the left up the falls (closed for ice) but well worth it. Always check w Rangers at Welcome Center to see what's open and accessible since there are many spots w black ice and more in winter.

This trail is rated as moderate but I would say its difficult. mostly up hill to the falls. That being said its beautiful and worth the work. Lots of trees very shady hike. I do not have children but I would not recommend bringing young kids as the path gets narrow at certain points and again there are steep inclines. I do look forward to doing this again but being more prepared with more water and bugspray.

The trail is not too long, but it gets steep in areas. There are plenty of places to catch your breath though. Beautiful trail with places to get down to the creek along the way. It hooks up with the Mill Creek Trail too. The falls are amazing, the water cold, and it's worth bringing your lunch so you can stay and play a little.
