This is a great run with both flat wide fire roads and single track trails. It works great in either direction. The top part is along the ridge trail, which is a fairly flat and easy job. Take the second trail head down (not French - though that works too). This is the the most technical part of the run, because the trail is smaller and less well maintained. As you get to the bottom, the trail becomes wider, flatter, and follows a stream through a redwood grove. Take Prince trail back to the top to complete the run on the other side of the ridge trail.

Nice walk through the red wood forest. Overall, pretty easy, but a few steep areas. We went on a Saturday and it was crowded—hikers, bikers, families, dogs.

I've done every inch in Redwood. Briones, Redwood and Mt Diablo were my go to hikes for the 20 years I lived in Concord.

I really enjoyed this hike as it takes you through a variety of trails in the park without having to commit as much time as some of the other trails require. I've already done some of the 6-8 mile hikes in the park, but this time brought a friend along for their first time and this was the perfect hike in length and difficulty. I took the opposite route and hiking up Tres Sendas was a little tiring, so I would suggest doing this loop counter clockwise.

East and West Ridge are highly trafficked by joggers, bikers, and dog walkers. But once you go down into the valley on Tres Sendas or Prince trail the traffic becomes sparse and the trail much more scenic. Right now there are a lot of lady bugs at the Prince/Stream trail intersection. And we crossed the water on Tres Sendas via a fallen tree, which was fun. It's hard to believe while walking on these trails that you're only miles away from millions of people. It's a great way to escape the city.
