Way Up Trail, Harmony Grove Overlook, and Equine Incline Loop is a 5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Escondido, California that features a lake and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, running, and nature trips and is accessible year-round.
Parking can be tricky as lots get full fast. Got here at 830am and both the normal and overflow lots were full. Busy on first part of trail but once hit upper level it thinned out as there were many forks you could take. Came down the botanical trail. Enjoyed the views.
Very well maintained trail! What a beautiful hike. Although, It was very busy. We ended up parking on the street because there were so many people there. Once you get up the Way Up trail people disperse and even on a busy day we hardly saw anyone for most of our hike!
Not too crowded on a weekday morning! The loop bit had some stretches that were all loose rocks, which is annoying.
A moderately honest hike. Real busy at the beginning, but clears up a lot on the upper loop.
Good hike. Lots of switch backs, very rocky in places, went off to the right on the way down to take the botanical trail back to the parking lot. Creek you have to cross using the rocks. dog friendly. Forgot to stop the recording so it includes about 5 mi of driving lol. Total hiking was 3.8 mi. Stopped our forward process due to the wind picking up and the weather advisory but plan to go back and make it to the witch trail.
The Way Up Trail and Harmony Grove Overlook are nice, but the Equine Incline Loop is long, has a ton of loose rocks and very little to no shade. Overall, it was a decent workout, but in the future I'd opt for another offshoot trail over the Equine Incline Loop portion.
Less populated than the other trails in Elfin. The path is rather rocky but offers pretty scenery!
It’s an easy trail but because it’s so long, it makes it kinda hard. Going down, there are loose rocks which isn’t hard but you could easily twist your ankles there. There’s almost no even path. You will be always ascending or descending. The scenery is kinda boring. Just some shrubs. No trees here. If you are looking for an amazing work out, this is it. But if you are looking for a nature hike, you might be disappointed.
The trail was nice, rocky on the way up, nice stream at the start, no shade at the top. Unfortunately, there's lots of doggy bags at left around and about 40% of the people don't mask up as you pass on narrow trails. The views at the overlooks are nice. The trails narrow and bikers font
Beautiful location for sure. Definitely rocky so be prepared. Also this says 4.8 miles but it is actually more like 5.6 miles recorded. We arrived by 9am on weekend and parking lots already full so had to park on main road another few blocks away.
Great views, lots of incline up to Harmony Grove outlook! HEAVILY trafficked. Lots of families, dogs, and bikers. Overall definitely moderate going up the Way Up Trailhead. Well maintained with a map and markers along the way. You can keep going for quite a ways! I stopped at Tykes Hike Trail. The Ridge Top Picnic area is so awesome!! Pack a lunch and enjoy at picnic tables with a view of the water and rolling hills. Can't wait to go back further!
Loved this hike. 5.5 miles. Challenging and relaxing. Well marked. Great scenery.
