Vollmer Peak Via Seaview Trail is a 1.8 mile out and back trail located near Berkeley, California that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, running, and mountain biking. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.
Great workout, partially shaded, some parts have nice views but the rest of the hike felt like a drag. Steep uphills and steep downhills makes it a great workout.
An easy and short hike from the parking lot to the communications tower. On a clear day you can see the San Francisco skyline, not today.
It was a great hike. I’m not sure which trail we took but it was nice to get a chance to walk up the hike off trail. It was most paved which kept my son on the trail but he loved the off trail the best. There’s a lookout point with a bench which was a nice treat after the straight up climb. There are great areas to sit and relax or eat a picnic. Make sure to bring and use sunscreen. Dog friendly.
Beautiful hike if you don’t have much time and you like panoramic views! It is short and easy, definitely less than one hour. In August there are still flowers and raspberries/blackberries around. I recommend it!
I took my 10 year old son and 2 of his friends since this trail is labeled “easy.” Couple comments: - for those families who like to hike AND take the kids to steam engine this is a good hike. Totally paved however there are some hills so be prepared to push stroller or carry for the little ones. In all the years we’ve been going to the steam engine w our kids I wish I had known about this trail. Would have been nice to add to our young children Tilden adventures. - for those with older kids (10+) I highly recommend that after you go to peak take sea view to lupine to volmer to get back to parking area. That adds a much more “nature hike” feel as it’s unpaved. Just feels more like you’re really on a hike. - lastly, the unappealing part of the paved trail is that you can’t avoid the several huge WiFi towers and their danger signs all around warning of the dangerous affects of being that close to the RFCs. That’s sort of a buzz kill being out in such beauty. That’s why I enjoyed taking a detour as I mentioned above because we saw none of that when we went off the original trail to find an alternate route back to car.
