Challenging on the way back (all up hill). Had to stop several times for a little one to catch their breath. Never found the cabin! So disappointing

Did this in combination with the Big Horn Mine trail. Went to the cabin first. All Trails not working for this part, but I had set up the route on Gaia GPS which worked flawlessly and got us to our destination. On the way, found a couple of old campsites on top of this small hill. Not much room, so not sure if they used a tent or not. The cabin still stands but dirtbags have begun tagging it, which is a shame. From the cabin we hiked up to the Big Horn mine. If planning to go on this hike be aware the spring thaw in conjunction with the remaining snow can make some parts of this trail a bit slippery.

Good well maintained short trail. The sign and post at the fork are gone. We put up a cairn, but in case it’s not there look for a fallen tree about 3/4 of a mile in. Turn right over the tree and you will see the trail to the cabin.

Good short easy trail with excellent views. The trail head is just to the left of the restrooms, past the white road closure gate. When you get to the first fork keep left towards the mine gulch trail. At the next fork keep left and when you get to the top of the little hill you’ll find the clearing with the cabin. It looks like if you want to make the hike longer you can continue down the rest of the mine gulch trail past the cabin as well for a total of 7.3mi (Vincent’s Gulch trail on AllTrails). Or you can venture back towards Big Horn Mine by staying right at the first fork- be ware it is badly washed out right now in several areas making it a more technical hike.

Great short hike. Def recommend for beginners and to prep for Big Horn Mine. Careful, there was a snake chilling on the back end of the cabin.

I do this hike on a regular basis, and have heard that it’s being used as a paintball battlefield! This has happened in just the last week or two since I was down last. I am learning a lot of new stuff as a 5 year veteran of the Volenteers of the Angeles National forest. But this hurts. It just hurts. I’m from the San Bernardino National forest originally, and have seen the abuses there too. Why? What do you get out of it? I have friends on the other side that used to have a great paintball field. But I guess the abuses drove them out of the business. I just don’t get some people ... rant over. Oh, and watch out for bears

A good beginner hike; short and sweet. Right before the cabin, there is a slight incline.
