Valencia Peak is a coastal mountain located within Montana De Oro State Park. This trail offers gorgeous views of the Central Coast, great views of Morro Bay, Cayucos and you can see Cambria and beyond on clear days. Also amazing views of Spooners Cove and to the south. With a little over a 1000+ feet of elevation gain, this is a great hike for hikers of all skill levels. If you have less hikes under your belt or are not in perfect physical shape leave a little more time for breaks along the way. It is doable for most it just may take a little longer. Park at the same parking as the Bluffs Trail, the trail begins on the east side of the south area of the parking. As you work your way up the views begin right away as you ascend up onto a saddle, and the rest of the hike is before your eyes. The hike begins to get a little harder the closer you get to the top, but before you know it you are there! Once you get there, you feel like you are on top of the world! It is well worth it! And the hike down is 100 times easier!

Beautiful hike if you catch it at the right time. Nice when you hit sunrise/sunset and/or it’s a little foggy and the hills work in unison with their surroundings. Definitely would not mark this as a “hard” difficulty, if you were hoping for the challenge. But it’s quiet enough considering all the other trails and the main attraction of Montana De Oro is right below, distracting everyone from this trail (if you’re trying to avoid people)

We picked a gorgeous day to do this hike. clear skies and no wind. I had forgotten about a few spots towards the top where the path gets pretty narrow and the drop to one side is iffy but if you go slow and make sure of your footing (in good hiking shoes) it's doable. Wouldn't recommend for young children but thats the mother in me talking for safety. Will be back for sure.

Beautiful views! It was pretty windy toward the top in December. Rugged terrain with some skill and good grip/nonskid footwear highly recommended. Great for a trail running challenge! There’s a sign in at the summit!

Nov 26. Bring a jacket for up top. Started warm at 70f and got windy up top. Love that it’s free. 360 degree distance views. Awesome. Gets rockier and steeper as you go up.

Phenomenal views. I recommend solid hiking boots if you have weak ankles, as things get rocky. Took about 1hr15mins to the summit. Breath-taking.

This is an easy hike with some steep sections and loose rocks. The view along the coast and inland is expansive. The trail is wide and open the entire way so even though there are warnings for rattlesnakes, ticks and mountain lions, I would not worry about this.

Did both Valencia peak and then oats peak. Perfect hike. Glad we went clockwise to get more shade on way back.

Only available for hiking for most of the trail. Connects with great mtb trails near the trailhead though. One of the best views in Montana de Oro State Park. Nice reasonable climb and reasonable out and back distance overall. You can finish in the morning and hang out at Spooner's cove afterwards checking out the tide pools.

Well marked and the views were stunning. There is a picnic table at the top if you want to eat lunch up there, but keep in mind there is absolutely no shade at any point on the trail so plan accordingly.

Great hike that provided a good workout. The fog limited our view, yet found some great views to the east. We reached the peak in an hour after starting at 12:30pm. The trail does get narrow at points, lots of loose rocks.

Great views and a total workout, but I highly recommend pants to avoid contact with poison oak and ticks.
