It has been reported this trail has a temporary closure due to COVID-19. Please see the park's website for up to date information. Enjoy the thrilling views of looking down from the top of Yosemite Fall. Yosemite Fall, dropping 2,425 feet to the bottom of the valley from the top, is one of the most visited places in Yosemite National Park. The fall consists of three sections: upper falls, middle cascade and lower falls. While most people visit lower falls only, upper falls is definitely worthy of visiting for its eye-opening views and hiker's self-satisfaction of reaching it. The trail to Upper Yosemite Fall is about 3 miles one way, gaining approximately 3,000 feet in elevation along the way. Once you get to the top of the valley, you can go to Yosemite Fall Overlook, a small platform near the mouth of Upper Yosemite Fall, to enjoy the thrilling views of looking down from above. The trailhead is located in the Sunnyside campground (Camp 4) near Yosemite Lodge. It generally takes 6 - 8 hours for average hikers to complete the roundtrip hike. The trail is generally open for the whole year, but can be difficult to hike in winter due to snow, especially beyond Columbia Rock.

One of the must-do, bucket-list hikes. You can't go wrong on this trail. It is tough and has some twists and turns, including a hidden observation platform at the top. Check out the video and guide on HikingGuy com for all the info before you head out.

Steps, a lot of steps, we are reasonable fit, it took us a bit more then 2hours up and a bit less on our way down (excluding the lunch break :) Nilice view on the waterfall. Too crowded for my taste but well marked and maintained. I really missed my polls on our way down.

Amazing introduction to Yosemite on the last day before it close for the Corona Virus. Challenging and rewarding experience.

Tough to describe. Magical hike. Very snowy and cloudy day. We started hiking up at 9am. Took us a bit over 4 hrs down and back going at a pretty good pace. Tough conditions and pretty challenging trail especially around the 2.5/3mile point and considering the amount of snow and lack of visibility at some parts. Got an Unreal view of the waterfall, mountains, trees, and the white scenery everywhere. One of us made it up to the top of the mountain but was disappointed by the lack of visibility from up there due to the weather (on a nicer day definitely something I would look forward to seeing though) . Way down was easier as we followed our footsteps. Not many people were hiking that today but quite a cool and challenging experience.

Went up to Columbia Rock point and felt good to keep going. It’s basically up the whole way. Did this in March and was in a tank top and used sun screen and a hat. Take shade and water breaks if you need them! Best part was seeing a rainbow on the waterfall on the lower part of the trail.

Bring food and water. It will be needed. View is worth it

Awesome trail! Switch backs seemed to start right away and are killer. Beautiful views of the valley from lower falls. Continuing onto to upper falls involves what feels like constant grueling switch backs. But the views keep getting more impressive. Once you get to upper falls and cross over the bridge, it's a pretty quick, flat walk to the summit. You may only run into a few others at the top. Amazing views of half dome and the valley!! Must do hike when visiting Yosemite

As expected! Great trail! It’s no joke with over 3k feet of elevation gain. Be prepared. Bring water & snacks. I started out at 9 am and i was still a little chilled after a 38 degree night. But the sun came out and the jacket came off quickly. The views on the way up are spectacular as expected. The Colombia overlook was empty and worth a stop on the way up. On the way down it was crowded. There’s also a couple of great spots on the way up to take pictures with the falls & Half dome in the shot. There were no bugs and a good portion of the first half to 2/3rds of the trail had cover. The last but you’re exposed so bring sun block & cover. Amazing views from the overlock at the top. After a brief break at the overlook we went around to the bridge & checked out the beautiful creek which feeds the falls. Well worth the extra .2 miles. Either location is perfect for a long break it took us 3 hours & 10 minutes to go up with a handful of breaks. Surprisingly it too nearly the same coming down (usually I’m faster going down). It was more crowded & there was a bear sighting in the way down. Maybe it was that. So yeah, awesome & well worth the exercise!

Amazing hike with great views pretty much all the way. Of course, this one is also really strenuous, simply going up throughout (just at one point actually going down a bit - though this part is especially horrible on the way back) and in large parts with the sun shining fully on you. I did this in late February, but in this weird, almost snowless winter, there was no snow at all on the trail and I regretted my decision to not even have a hat with me, as I suffered a major sunburn at around 60 degrees and no clouds. In total, it took me about 2:40 to get up and 1:45 down, staying at the top for about an hour.

Didn't hike to the top. Initially planned to hike till lower gate but unintentionally went way further. There is no clearly marked viewpoint as such so keep checking the map if you only plan to hike till lower gate. There is a very good view of the falls at about 1.9 miles on the second set of switchbacks. From the map it looked like trail was going away from the falls after that switchback. Returned back from that point

Tough trail with steps most of the way, but well worth it. Lots of sand on rocks making them slippery. Great views from several points all the way to the top!

Although the trail was very difficult for me, I thought it was a fantastic hike (despite a lot of rocks and loose gravel/sand in many parts). There were many great places to take pictures during the first half of the climb up. The views at the top were great (not spectacular) but it felt great just getting to the top. The weather was perfect (partially sunny and around 60 degrees). It took me 3.5 hours up and 2.0 hours down, which was definitely on the slower side compared to most other hikers.

Very easy hike to follow but pretty strenuous. Most of the trail is steep incline with hundreds of switchbacks but don't let that discourage you because the top rewards you with an amazing view of the valley. I recommend bringing trekking poles and wearing hiking boots because it gets really rocky. I definitely plan on doing this trail again to get to Yosemite Point which is an extra mile from the Upper Yosemite Falls Outlook.

Great views of the valley, however trail is straight up almost the entire way. Almost no ice or snow to be found.

We went February 16 and there was no snow or ice on the trail. Series of switchbacks at the beginning and end with a pleasant traverse in the middle half. Predictably very crowded on a holiday weekend but still highly recommend for the great workout and beautiful views.

The view of the valley from along trail are great in my opinion. At the top, where there’s a trail that leads to a lookout spot. It’s got View of the valley but can’t see the waterfall. I was gassed as we climb the 3000 ft ascend to the top of Yosemite Falls.

Amazing! The view rewards you throughout the hike. There seriously are so many amazing view points it’s hard not to stop and stare at the waterfall as you ascend. Switchbacks are a majority of the hike and incline is a challenge but the top is we’ll worth it! (As every review agrees!)

Great Trail. My boyfriend brought poles and it helped him out a lot. Trail is rocky and slippery at some parts so wear good hiking shoes. The top of upper Yosemite falls is so amazing. Make sure to cross the little creek to go to the overlook when you get to the top. There are stairs with a metal handle that lead down to a tiny overlook. The spray from the waterfall felt so refreshing and I really enjoyed this trail.
