Easy breezy fun hike. The sound of the river is soothing. The bridge was scary fun. Great sweater weather

Beautiful trail along the river. Snow coming this week might make this trail snowshoe worthy. Castle Crags Park might be closed for covid but tunnel under I-5 was DEFINITELY CLOSED and caused a pretty big detour.

My family and I have gone out twice now to do this trail. It’s amazing. You’ll see a ton of different plants, the water is refreshing and has random people tubing down it. The bridge scares the hell out of me but my kids seem to love it. Lots of good stones for skipping rocks.

directions here were pretty awful. we first took the path through the park itself (parked on side and walked through gate) we made it past the campgrounds but when it came to the tunnel under I5 that was supposed to keep the trail, it was padlocked shut....had to turn all the way back to the car. we got back in the car and went back towards the Chevron (on the right), passed the exit/entrance to I5, took a left through a small neighborhood and followed it until we saw a sign that said Riverside drive on the right, took a right, passed the rail road tracks, then took a left and kept driving. you drive for a while, like to the point where you think "I should probably turn around" but DONT! lol you'll eventually see a sign for campgrounds, keep going and then on the left further down you'll see a sign that says river trail. the parking is limited but worth it! the hike is easy and beautiful. shaded, small bridges and river access. if you keep walking you'll eventually make it to the bouncy bridge and cute picnic area. definitely recommend!!!

5/16/2020 Undoubtedly, one of the most beautiful trails I've been on. So much green foilage (incl. poison oak FYI), bridges, flowers, fascinating rock structures. My friends and I had a blast exploring the trail and river and taking many photos. One of my favorite parts was the river-crossing bridge. It's earth-quake resistant and bounces! Felt like a trampoline. 10/10 recommend. Will go again with a lunch to eat by the river and dip in the shallow parts during summer.

WalkingClosed

May 4, 2020. The trail is closed in two spots -- the entrance to the Castle Crags state park, and where the trail goes under Interstate 5. The second of these is impossible to circumnavigate. We hiked to that spot, then retraced our steps back to the park headquarters and drove to Riverside Dr. where we picked up the trail again, so as to complete the entire length, out and back. Hidden gem on the east side of the highway. A swinging foot bridge, picnic area, rushing river, well groomed trail. Beautiful greenery, and lots of shade. Plenty of places to get to the water's edge. Great hike.

Beautiful hike. Very Easy stroll. Directions to trailhead terrible. Go opposite side of freeway from Castle Crags visitor center. Past picnic area sign. Trail nicely maintained.
