The lake were amazing. The trail head maybe difficult to find watch out for small sign for PCT that lead to the trail. The hard part is driving up the smaller curve road. It is a challenge climbing down to the lake but the view is very nice.

HikingGreat!

The road (CA 4 W from Hwy 89) to the TH is very windy, with blind, sharp curves, and narrow. Most of the way there is no center line, no guard rail, no shoulder. To me, a very scary road. No toilets at TH. Marker for TH is a very small, PCT TH marker. Definitely used the coordinates to find it (38.54572, -119.81128). The Trail itself was mostly nice, lots of shade. A bit of rock scrambling just before Upper Kinney Lake. Upper is absolutely beautiful while Lower Kinney is quite low and so not currently as pretty. The trail that appears to go part way around Lower Kinney had a lot of trees down, overgrown and so decided to go around Lower Kinney along the water edge which was not easy as it is sandy. Got into the water at Lower Kinney, bottom was surprisingly not gross/slimy! Water was cold so did not stay in long but it was worth the dip.

Easy trail. Smoky today from the fires. I started from the Ebbets Pass Trailhead parking lot.

Amazing Trail! Went here for my first backpacking trip with some friends. Absolutely beautiful spot with so many different views to find. A little easy to get lost and go the wrong way at the beginning. As long as you find your way this area is gorgeous!

Beautiful hike through stunning vistas. The trail alternates between open and shaded sections, passing multiple ponds on the way to Kinney Lake, nestled in the mountains like an infinity pool overlooking the valley down to Markleeville. Well worth the effort.

Easy trail. Easy to miss the trailhead. We started off a little further up the road that appeared to be a trailhead but it was a dead end. Many ponds along the way. Tried to fish but had no luck. Kids and dog did great. Water at the lake was still too cold to swim in.

This quickly became one of my favorite day hikes. Beautiful scenery (Desert! Forest! Mountains! Lakes! Boulders!) and well marked through to the upper lake, which is easy to follow around without a marked trail (keep the lake in sight and you’re fine). I spotted the lower lake and went off-trail— had fun venturing around the boulders and terrain, which were easy to meander around and delivered so many great views. Coming back, near the beginning, was stunning too. This is a yes.

Hiked this June 19 2020. Great easy hike. First part is up hill and exposed but it’s short and the rest is up and down. Still bits of snow in sections. Fun to slide down. Hiked to west side of lake and took a swim. Very few mosquitos.

Rolling trails past couple small lakes (ponds) through the rocks and pines. Dry, still some snow in pockets. Started at the PCT just over Ebbets Pass Summit. Short uphill then rolling to the lakes. We packed in to the upper lake but was pretty busy and loud. Opted to head over to the north side by the dam and after crossing dam took a right and scrambled down the rocks to Lower Kinney Lake and camped on the peninsula that juts out into the lake. Breathtaking. Water crystal clear, trout fishing and looks like great spots to jump off rocks into lake. Sandy beaches easy access to water. Our second day we walked around lake to the dam side and then cut behind the rocks and scrambled to the top overlooking the lakes. Dont miss this, the views are amazing. Easy in easy out. Plenty to do to keep you busy. Highly recommended if taking kids on first backpacking trip.

A lot of mosquitos anywhere near water (duh), and there is a WHOLE LOTTA WATER this year! We didn't go around the lake, due to insects and difficulty following the trail lakeside. Fabulous wildflowers and scenery right now.
