For my first time hiking this trail kicked my ass all the way up the hill. It was a great workout. When you reach the top youll see that there are other trails! Be careful for snakes. Its getting warmer and they like to lay in the trail. First time i went was 4/7/18 and a rattle snake was laying in the middle of the trail.
The second time 4/15/18 and came across a smaller snake also laying in the trail.

Great workout. All up hill. An hour and a half round trip. A lot of lizards!

Finally made it to the top this time around. It ends at an access road. There is a parking lot and port-o-potty but no water. Once at the top, you can turn around and come back down, or you can continue on to the Edison Trail. Great workout!

upsetting to see it is fire torn.... and just seeing where the fire was at - no way this was caused naturally... anyway, had fun regardless...2nd time around headed out to M mt.

Just when you think there are no interesting, challenging hikes in your own backyard, you find a hike like this. Box Springs Mountain is 3,083 feet at it's highest peak. Its a fun, steep hike with a true accomplishment of reaching the "M" if you go all be the way to the radio towers.

Nice Sunday hike. Cool spring

This is a tough trail. All uphill, no shade and despite being able to hear the city noise, still relaxing. There were two mini-very tiny waterfalls and a small stream. I recommend this trail for teens and adults not so much for kids.

Beautiful, virtually unknown, trail in Riverside! In the span of a few months, I’ve seen a rattlesnake, couple coyotes and today encountered a bobcat! Still an amazing trail, definitely one to maybe take the headphones out, be vigilant, and enjoy the surroundings! Very little trash and graffiti too! Will always be a favorite!

if you do not know this trail or have the membership to the app do not go on this hike. 3 signs to nowhere. trail is not at all clearly marked, one could easily get lost. so dissapointed

Lightly challenging trail. This was our first trail. And coming from an athletic background it wasn’t too tough. It was a great trail for a short 20 min drive. Not crowded a good quiet trail. Will get a good sweat towards the top. Great starting trail in my opinion for people with a little bit of athletic background.

We’d give 3.5 stars... good hike, very steep! We only saw one lizard. As others mentioned, some fire damage and lots of trash and broken bottles at the top. Some pretty views and a little stream, despite no rain this year.

great trail easy to walk and follow, definitely will visit again for relaxing hikes.

The elevation gain is quick... easy when cool, moderate in full sun. Carry lots of water, especially if you extend your jaunt into the Mtn Park at the top.

I do this trail almost weekly. It's a nice way to get the blood flowing at the start of the day, and give a bit of elevational perspective on the town of Riverside.
HOWEVER, as of last night (8/14/2017), the trail caught fire, so it might not be safe to hike for a while

Nice well-marked trail. Pretty easy and my dog enjoyed it. Views from the top are nice especially to watch the sunset!

This is a fun trail. A steady incline that is not to difficult. Coming back down is really fun. It can give you a good workout. I enjoyed this one. It takes about an 1-1.5 hr to go up and come back down at a steady pace.

This is a steep trail, but it's short. When you get to the road at the top there are a ton of extra opportunities to explore. Going left there are a few trials that go through and around some cool rock formations with stunning views of the San Bernardino and San Gabriel mtn ranges. Going right there are more trails and more excellent views of San Jacinto Peak. I like to run/walk up two trees and then do some more running on the trail systems at the top. Currently there are some overgrown spots, but you can get by with shorts if you don't mind your legs brushing up against some of the grasses that have grown on the side of the trail. The waterfall halfway up is no longer running from what we could tell this past Wednesday.

Very doable, but more realistically an easy-moderate rating! Best to do September-April. There isn't much shade, so it is better to go in the morning. The views from the top are beautiful!!

This trail has very rocky sections and is steep. The trail is not maintained very well. So be carful if you have a possibility of being allergic to the plants. There was heavy traffic on the trail and tons of
Lizards! But overall a nice hike, but I wouldnt consider it an "easy" level.

This hike was decent. Would be so much better if the trail was maintained. Nice little waterfall about halfway up. Saw lots of lizards and more people than anticipated. At the fire road there is a TON of trash. :(
Be careful. We encountered some juvenile poison oak on the trail as well as some poodle dog bush. Just stay clear of it (near the waterfall) and you should be good.
Oh, and don't be like me. Wear pants!!

Nice steep trail, good workout for the legs! I would rate this a 4/10 for difficulty.

As of March 18th, the lower trail is overgrown. The upper path to the Box Springs parking lot is passable but you'll definitely brush up against some plants. I would wearing recommend pants if you don't want itchy legs.
