We camped at Triangle lake then hiked down this to Glen Alpine in late July. Triangle Lake is more of a pond than an alpine lake (not much water flow, not that clear). The campsite next to the lake was good, but the area got a bit buggy at dusk and dawn, but was not terrible. (Although I assume it would have been much worse a few weeks earlier). The views from the top of the trail down to Glen Alpine were spectacular, with Fallen Leaf and Tahoe behinds. The trail was well trafficked, but there were sections that were hard to find, through narrow, heavily vegetated creek beds, and was steep. It probably would have been easier to follow going up, but the middle 1.5 miles or so are challenging. Still, if you want to get up to 8000’ and the PCT quickly, this is a good way to do it.

I hiked down this trail yesterday coming from Echo Lake. By the time I got to the ridge it was noon and the snow pack was soft and I postholed for the next few hours. The trail down the cliff face is completely covered with snow about 1.5 miles in. It was a snowy scramble down steep scree slopes, often punching through to my waist. I would leave this trail alone for now until the cliff face has melted out. I'm not sure why this is rated as 'easy', this is a steep trail coming out of the trailhead. If you do go, be prepared for flooded trails, deep snow, and no visible trail for miles. I'd try to get to Triangle Lake as early as possible while the snow is solid as well. Good luck.
