Good hike for winter/spring when the hills are green and temperature is lower. No shade for most of the trail.
Great workout. Felt like a moderate difficulty, just very long. Went after a night of rain and it was really muddy at many parts of the trail. Many people turned around at those sections. This place was quite popular, luckily most of the trail was pretty wide. No view, but maybe because it was very foggy. Practically no shade. There was like 2 long climbs and the rest were downhill or flat. Dogs allowed. Huge parking lot
Hiked all the way up to Tolman Peak, and it was beautiful up there. Enjoyed the views.
Moderate, pleasant hike with one steep ascent / descent in the middle. The middle portion is narrow and shaded. The beginning and end paths are wide and unshaded. Views are just ok. Going clockwise, the trail veers to the right for a bit, just to reverse direction. Not much to see there, unless you want to go all the way up the hill to Holman Peak (not part of the posted trail). Plenty of parking on the weekdays. Watch out for the cows.
Did this on a weekday afternoon, and had it pretty much to myself. Go counter-clockwise because then your uphill trek on South Fork Trail will be shaded, and the shadeless Tolman Peak Trail will be for the faster, easy descent. There is a view from the top, towards Coyote Hill Regional Park ... but not quite as exciting as views in the East Bay Hills further north.
I saw zero hot springs. :( Shade was sparse but really nice when we found it. Decent views.
Nice path. I took the south fork path, having missed the first turn to get up the peak. I preferred this route since it is shaded and follows the dry creek. Enjoyed a pretty decent view from the top. Not very crowded for a Saturday, especially after the first mile or so.
A beautiful trail. difficulty is your option, depending on how you want to climb the hill. If you go clockwise it’s more difficult which meant a good workout and great surprise going down. Not much of a view from the top, no lookout point, but the way up is beautiful on both ends. Watch out for poison oak along the trails.
The trailhead is in a neighborhood, watch for resident parking only signs. (I parked on Mission Blvd and walked 0.4 miles to get to the trailhead.) I hiked counterclockwise and it took me about 2 hours. Trail is mostly exposed. It was cloudy and rainy on the day I went, so unfortunately I didn’t see any views.
Beautiful hike. The first half mile in and out was was heavily trafficked, but afterwords the rest of the hike was very peaceful and quite. The climb was nice going up counterclockwise with clear views. After reaching the peak the trail eventually dropped down in a lovely wooded area that hugged a small stream.
Tons of cows out on the trail today. A little intimidating to walk past big groups of them, but I love cows so I didn’t mind. very muddy, wear tight shoes
Nice trail in the hills with views on the bay. Short section in the shade. Friendly encounter with some cows and their calfs. It took us about 2h to complete. A small part of the trail was muddy when we went 1-2 days after it rained. We walked off the trail in the grass but I can imagine it could make some people uncomfortable. The short section at the top on the map is not necessary as it does not give you any better view.
