Tips

This trail is closed through the end of October 2020. Note: this is a challenging hike which involves mountain climbing, rock traversing, particularly if hiking to the third waterfall or traversing the rocky bottom. Please exercise caution. Start early or late in the day as it gets hot, bring lots of water, and use caution as this trail has some loose rocks, involves some ropes, and has some steep sections. Not a great hike for kids or dogs due to these sections. The trail has been greatly improved and rerouted so ropes are no longer needed. The road leading to the trailhead is rocky. Make sure to bring an appropriate vehicle to get the trailhead. Please note that it can get very hot on this trail, use caution.

I was there two weeks ago (July 29) totally forgot to write the review. Got there a bit late 9:40am the way to the waterfall was fine it took me about 1 to get there. There was no waterfall the lake was dirty some people where jumping in. The way back was way harder as the sun was at the top it also took me 1 hour to head back to the car. I would definitely recommend this hike when it’s rain season so you can see the waterfalls start early like at 8am so you can be back to your car around 10am. Wouldn’t recommend for kids unless they like to hike and def not dog friendly.

The trail is great however i went yesterday 8/2/20 and it was closed, there is a lot of no parking signs on the street and a ranger was there by the entrance. not sure if it was close due to covid or the heat wave. Also, not sure if they close it on weekends or weekdays as well.

Awesome place, great hike, lots of animals on the way. You need to bring a lot of water. Only bad thing, people are living way too many trash! Water snake was swimming between plastic bags!!! We should have brought more bags to take it away! So PLEASE take trash with you!!! This place needs respect!!!! Nature need respect!!

Good hike! It’s not as hard as I thought it would be, there’s also some spots with shade but mostly no shade. There was a stream of water at the falls but nothing crazy!

If you are a beginner DO NOT start with this hike. okay, now that that's out the way hahaha this is an amazing hike. I hiked with a couple of my friends and it is dangerous but wonderful especially if you like to push yourself. it's categorized as hard and I could see why but if your experienced I would say it's more dangerous than difficult. The hike down is no problem you have to be extremely careful though! lots of drop offs and you will have to climb over some small boulders here and there nothing major. The hike back up is when it gets a bit intense. The view is amazing! especially the waterfalls! I would NOT recommend bringing children and please, please do NOT bring your dogs. I just hiked this trail about a day or so ago and the heat is very intense so, make sure you start early in the morning and bring A LOT of water and snacks. If you know you overheat easily ( like me) bring some Gatorades with you! or something with electrolytes AND hydrate the day before as well

This was definitely a more difficult hike. I brought my son, who is six, but he is in top shape for a six year old. I wouldn’t recommend bringing children unless they get plenty of exercise. Bring plenty of water and power snacks. This trail is hot, not a lot of shade, and hard going down to the falls. Keep in mind, going down to the falls, which means it’s going to be very difficult getting back up. I recommend taking off your shoes and going into the falls pool to saturate yourself in cool water before heading back up. That will keep you cool for a good 45 minutes. You’ll thank me once you realize what it did to keep your body temperature down. I felt bad for the people that I saw struggling heading down, because I knew that they were gonna be in trouble trying to make it back. Do not attempt this trail if you aren’t in shape, or have hiking experience.

Great trail... once you hit the giant wood pole... GO LEFT FOR HEAVEN’S SAKE! Someone took the sign down that says go left for the waterfalls. We went straight for a half mile and got lost. Thank goodness for All Trails and their map otherwise we might have been in serious trouble getting to the trail. Also... at LEAST 40 ounces of water per person.

Ripped two twelvers of claws with the boys the night prior, woke up at 6am, and did the damn thing. People that rated this 1 star and complained are soft. Get up early, hit the trail, do a fuckin gainer into the pool, and get back to SD in time for a fat brunch. Bring water....

Started early at 5pm. Weather was cool. Only 4 of us on trail. Unfortunately the waterfall was nonexistent. Just a small body of water remained. Fairly easy going down the mountain and definitely a challenge coming back up! Luckily, we avoided the heat finished around 7:15am.

Overall great hike. Do be mindfully of ticks if you bring your dog. I brought mine and he came home with at least 8 ticks. The falls are really though and the water is cold. Would recommend to wear shoes with traction some rocks are very slippery down by the falls. Also it’s lots of fun to clip jump into the second waterfall and would recommend that only people above the age of at least 10 do the hike could be extended dangerous for anybody younger.

THIS IS NOT A BEGINNER'S HIKE. This is my favorite hike near San Diego BECAUSE it's so difficult. The waterfalls are so worth it, but they normally only run in the spring (c'mon people, how do you expect water to flow of it hasn't rained in half a year?). Take plenty of water for the way back and leave your pets at home.

Stop going here and taking your kids and pets with you. This trail is extremely dangerous and you will get seriously hurt. Anyone rating this 5 stars is complicit. This isn't even a recognized trail and signs warn you not to do it. If you have a death wish, do this hike.
