Turned around due to no trespassing signs - followed AllTrails map. Not sure if they’re new?

The initial section is not great, just a fire road around the ski slope. There is a better route that starts 200m up Donner Pass Rd, climbs up and around near Mt Stephens, and then connects back with the trail. Parts of the trail are overgrown and one section is covered in water, so it is a bit hard to navigate. Good views though.

As soon as you start the trail, you come up to the first lake fairly quickly. Each lake has gorgeous views that won't disappoint with plenty of places to sit, relax and have a snack or lunch by the lake. There are bugs and mosquitoes so bring bug spray. The reason i gave it 4 stars out of 5 was because some parts of the trail, especially between Lake Angela (1st lake) and Lake Flora (2nd lake), the trail diverts in two directions and can easily put you off trail. I used the AllTrails map to follow the correct path. At one spot near Lake Angela, it is overtaken by the lake so you have no choice but to go up the rocky parts and connect back onto the trail. See my trail recording and you will see where i veered off trail and had to find the path back. Some parts of the trail are overgrown. Overall, a great scenic hike!

It was a great hike. Loved going off trail a bit for peak view. Very little Snow :) but it was windy cold.

The trail head is difficult to find and it winds through a frisbee golf course. As of June 4th the lake level was high, and cut off a section of the trail. But once you’re up in that area it is pretty and quiet and there are a couple other nearby trails you can jump to. I highly recommend downloading the all trails app prior to starting this hike so you can find your way.

Adventurous time navigating on & off trail to all three lakes. May 16, 2020. Good thing for All Trails app to stay close to be on course. Lol. Still abundance of snow. Great views.

Great trail! It was difficult to stay on course but the map helped. It could of been due to the fact that there is still too much snow. As of May 9, 2020 we were not able to go past the first lake (Angela Lake) due to the abundance in snow. I believe in another 2 weeks it should be clear. The views were still worth it, it was beautiful! The weather was at 72 degrees so it beats the valley heat.

Excellent trail, great views and some fun rock scrambling. Lots of options to even make a loop using PCT

we had a great little adventure on this hike! It's November 10th so there were no bugs and the weather was perfect and an app and beer at Donner Ski Resort after. I suggest you follow the trail online or it's hard to follow! luckily we did follow the redline and stayed on track.

this was a really fun hike. an unpaved road till you get past the reservoir. after that tranquil lakes, nice 0place for a picnic, lots of off shoot trails to explore. only lost the trail a few times, but easy to get back on track. we even got a view of donner lake and found excalibur.

Not a well marked trail so it is easy to split off on other trails. The AllTrails app/map was very helpful. The trail terrain was relatively easy. I did a 5.2 mile loop with a parallel trail to the east that was a tad more challenging. A cold beer at Donner Ski Ranch afterwards is a nice bonus.

The trail is very hard to follow between Angela and Flora lakes! We ended up off trail quite a bit, but it made for a great adventure. To repeat what others have said, you cannot swim in Angela! Because of this, we decided to start the hike on the back side out of Tahoe Ski ranch so that was the first lake we passed. That way, our destination was a lake we could swim and play in. We still had one significant snow patch to cross but other than that the trail was clear. Mosquitoes are so thick! Being lots of bug spray! Having a beer on the patio of the Donner Ski Ranch following this hike was a huge bonus!!!!

Numerous No Trespassing signs within the first half mile make you feel kinda unwelcome. Lake Angela is the primary water supply so they don’t want people or dogs in there. Maybe the other dotted trail that runs parallel off to the right that is open.

Not my favorite hike in the area, but Flora Lake is such a great place to swim and picnic! We stayed a few hours and hung out. The trail around Angela Lake is very hard to follow! Mosquitos are insane right now so bring bug spray!!

This was a great hike! Had our five year old so didn’t make it all the way. Would have been five stars but the mosquitoes were insane! Got eaten alive. :(

Beautiful day. Make sure you use this app to track the trail as some of trail is under water so you need to go around and climb rocks to get back on trail. Once we got out to third lake a lot of people camping out there. Was great hike though. I live up here but first time doing this one.
