What a great hike! Elevation is the challenge when going uphill but the kids did great and since it’s not a long hike it’s very doable. I wanted to just stop and spend hours overlooking the lakes it was so peaceful.

Moderately strenuous hike. The views are spectacular! Cliff lake is one of the most beautiful lakes I have come across in Lassen volcanic national park

HikingGreat!

This was an exceptionally beautiful hike! Went with my 10 & 12 year old who loved it as well. We swam in the second of the two lakes and explored the other two. The hike in is easy as it’s all downhill, the hike back is challenging going back up. A good challenging hike with lots of beautiful spots- lakes, brooks, flowers, rocks - so glad we did this hike!

There is a $30 7-day park pass charge if you don’t have a seasonal park pass to access trail. The trail was great somewhat rocky and a downhill climb at various degrees, we made it to the second lake in about an hour. Had my three year old with me and she walked most of the way with a couple falls, helicopter parenting required on the thin trail areas, and assistance down/up the steep terrain areas. Water too cold for us to want to go in at this time of year. Not a piece of trash on the trail would 100% recommend to advanced beginner and above hikers.

Three lovely unique lakes. Worth hazarding the smoke. Would've been 5 stars on a clear day.

Nice short hike - not “easy” for a beginner due to elevation changes.

Fun trail. Harder than expected because of the altitude. Beautiful views of the lakes and Lassen Peak.

Absolutely beautiful! Cute deer and ducks at each of the lakes. Easy trail to do with only a little elevation gain on the way back.

This trail was one of my favorites. Downhill in, uphill out. The lakes were gorgeous and well worth the hike.

This was a very pleasant hike. Each lake had its own personality and were spaced just right. Plenty of shade.

Nice hike out to the three lakes. Don’t be fooled by the dried up melt pond before you get to Cliff Lake! Fairly easy hike in the park with very few people on the trail.

Hiking

A great easy trail with amazing views. The trail was easy to follow and the access to all three lakes was easy. We only saw a few other hikers throughout the trail. We were able to take a dip in the lakes as we hiked. It is an uphill climb back up but nothing challenging.

All very beautiful and pristine lakes!! Not too busy, especially if you go all the way to the last lake. This park is definitely underrated!

When I first started out on this trail, it was hard to find where the trail was. Yes, there were trail markers, but I wasn’t seeing any until I got a little further down! This is relatively a moderate leveled trail due to the fact it’s ALL uphill on the way back. There was minimal shade along the way, but the breeze was nice! In my opinion, Cliff Lake was the best one and well worth the uphill trek back! Some snow along the way, but nothing you have to go through. A touch of a muddy spot as well. Enjoy!

Hiking

My kids ages 4, 6, and 10 and I did the hike to just beyond the Terrace Lake. We could see Shadow lake. Both lakes were gorgeous. The hike back to the car is mostly uphill so we didn’t venture farther down to Shadow lake but we will definitely be back. The trail is gravelly and sometimes not clearly marked but we found our way. Patches of shade and some bits is snow left. Great rewards for short hike. I think it took us less than 20 minutes to the first lake. Enjoy
