Stunning views, a couple of tough inclines but otherwise not difficult. Can't see how it would take much more than 2hrs without stopping a lot

I read other reviews and did the loop counter clockwise. It’s good to do the hard climbing during the first part of the hike so you enjoy the coastal views most the rest of the way. This hike is strenuous. Two uphill sections are definitely aerobic. We added a little and went all the way to Tennessee beach which adds an extra 1.5 miles on flat terrain, but definitely worth it!

Did it backwards so biggest hill out of the way first. Nice cool pacific breezes to help with this very hot day.

Walking

Fun trail - did it solo, went counter clockwise to do the steep climb (via fire road) first and it was worth the workout. I did elect to trek down to pirates cove through the jagged path to the beachhead. it was very secluded and worth the short detour/break. the rest is all gravy - enjoy.

Great trail in a hot day inland. 20 degrees cooler at the coast and beautiful. Do the trail counterclockwise if you have bad knees. Gentler declines and you end up going up the stairs.

Got a bit lost near pirate cove so added mileage! A great hike. Lot was full by the time we got back at 9:30

Went counterclockwise to get the long, steady, hard incline portion finished first. Beautiful hike. Highly recommend. Restrooms at Tennessee Valley are currently open.

Good condition throughout, wide but steep in sections. Nice views of the Pacific, if the fog stays away.

Gorgeous views all along this trail!! Clear trail signs. Definitely moderate, some steep inclines but definitely worth the views! Went down the cliff to Pirates Cove by the water... extremely steep/rocky but sturdy, with a beautiful cove secluded at the bottom. Lots of wildlife roaming.. definitely will do this one again soon! Maybe took 4 hours.. 4.5 with the detour to pirates cove! Definitely go early to avoid crowds, we got back to the parking lot around 10:45am/11 and it was packed!

Didnt take the exact same route but overall great! Pirates cove and Tennessee Beach were nice pit stops after a couple steep inclines. We went pretty early and avoided the crowd. Got back to the parking lot at 11:30AM ish and the lot was filled to the brim!! Also going early will avoid the sun since itll be foggy

I was here on 5/30/20. Parking lot was closed and bathrooms closed. I had parked my car at Rodeo Avenue. It was over 11 miles round trip for me, I was hiking from the mountain down to the ocean and come back, it was about 2,200 ft gain, it is the most spectacular view of the mountains, incredible view ocean and indeed of the city. I had everything in this hike. I was able to see Oakland Bay, Tiburon, GGB, SF bay... and a lot more... At Tennessee beach I was climbed up 800 ft to vista point. It is the most amazing relaxing view I haven’t never seen, since not many people up there. I will come back here again for HILL 88. Happy hike everyone,

Absolutely loved this hike. There is a part where you hike down to a beach and tons of just amazing views all around. Moderate hiking ability.

Maintained trail, good views of the ocean and surrounding hills. Not the most difficult, but a good casual hike. Recommend you start from Fox Trail so you get the steep grade out of the way first and have a more scenic view on your way back.

I agree with going counterclockwise and hitting the Fox trail first. Handle the big elevation climb and then enjoy the coastal views for much longer on the loop. The trail was well trodden and marked. Also, not a lot of shade. I was lucky and easily found parking at the trailhead, and the bathroom was good.
