Tennessee Beach via Fox, Coastal and Lower Tennessee Valley Trail Loop is a 5.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Sausalito, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options.
Please do not feed the wildlife and if a coyote approaches- yell, wave your arms, and chase it away. This is a great route that offers beautiful views of the ocean and the rolling hills of the Tennessee Valley. A great place for trail running and a short mountain biking loop with some steep inclines and declines. This place is a chaparral habitat for bands of roaming coyotes and home to bobcats and deer. It can be done clockwise or anti-clockwise. You cannot avoid the steep hills anyway. But the views are worth it!

Great trail, downhill has loose gravel, be sure to wear shoes with good traction and don’t let your toes slip forward.
This trail has some great views of the ocean and you can even see part of San Francisco from the top. I would recommend doing it counter clockwise since it gets all of the uphill done at once. I also recommend taking the lower Tennessee Valley trail when you get closer to Tennessee Beach if you want a break from uphill/ downhill. lots of mountain bikers/ trail runners on the trail. id also recommend getting there early as the parking lot was already almost full by 745am. the parking lot also has lots of steep dips and holes so be aware. overall great trail on a clear winter day.
Loved this hike, nice to get all the uphill out of the way (counter clockwise), then a nice reward at the beach. Plenty of bathrooms. Road is somewhat rocky, so have to be careful going downhill. Our 5 year old did great.
Tennessee Valley part beautiful, return via Fox Trail too long and steep, shared by mountain bikers.
Tennessee Valley feels like the overlooked sibling hidden between the Muir Woods watershed and the Rodeo Beach Watershed. It is Chaparral habitat for bands of roaming coyotes and home to bobcats and deer. Many cute California Quail live here, as well as Turkey Vultures and other Birds of Prey. For decades this was home base for students in the tuition-free Bay Area summer program Aim High who camped at Haypress Camp. Students who were lucky enough got to coordinate one or two group howls at night and hear the Coyote yip back. Great hiking, but better still when you have stewarded the land and consider it a home away from home.
Got here after 3:30 on a Sunday. Plenty of parking. Beautiful ocean view from the top. Sunset at the beach was amazing! Will try the larger loop next time when we have more times.
Super big wind blows the sand high. Hardly enjoy the beautiful view. Not comfortable.
Went counterclockwise which is a pretty hard up to start the trail. But then the rest is a steady and easier downhill. Seemed to be the less popular direction, but very glad I got the harder part done up front. Gorgeous views, windy. Layers recommended. Many options for side hikes like to Pirate Cove. Great moderate bordering on hard hike!
Great trail, however I wish to do it again on a weekday because it was too crowded the closer you got to Tenessee Beach. There are various off shoots along the upper part of the hill that are much more scenic and beautiful in my opinion. Perfect hiking weather early April
