Great views, trail is well maintained except for the last 2 miles are a bit overgrown, trekking poles are definitely helpful with all the hills.
Overall decent hike. The trailhead starts on the opposite side of the parking lot next to the candy store right off the highway. Some decent views and a few pretty areas with trees. The last few miles of the trail isn’t very well maintained and you may get some scratched up a bit. We didn’t hit water until we got to tenaja falls and it was just a small stream. We camped a few 100 yards above the waterfall and hiked out the next morning. Good weather and a nice overnight backpacking trip for winter time!
The road out there might also be difficult in a regular car. The trail is short and fairly easy, though pretty overgrown in a lot of places. The whole area and especially the falls are very pretty except for all the graffiti. Also, when we went there was a TON of POISON OAK all over the place in the lower valley portions of the trail. We tried taking another trail back and it was even worse.
This was the toughest hike I’ve done in a while. I decided to make it a loop as my recording shows but I caution anyone attempting this loop that the 6 miles on the North Tenaja trail was very overgrown and quite a challenge, yet rewarding. See my recording for the loop I made. Thanks to Charles Wang for recording this loop option.
What a hike! The little road getting up there is no joke either. It gets pretty sketchy when you get someone trying to drive thru in the opposite direction. When we (myself and my 8 & 6yr old) hit the trail we didnt cross the water we stayed right and got super lost and had to back track but once we got back to square one and crossed the water it was a good hike. The falls are gorgeous and the kids loved getting in the water. We saw a newt in the pool at the top of the falls and a snake up top on the rocks. Poison oak is everywhere too. Such a great hike though beautiful views lots of fun. Strongly recommend checking it out.
Decent trail, intermittent vegetation provides some shade but definitely bring some sunscreen, I got burnt. not too steep, pretty easy. The falls were cool but way overcrowded with loud obnoxious people yelling about nothing and freaking out about their kids getting too close to the edge, I'd go on a weekday if you can, but the rest of the hike was pleasantly peaceful and I only encountered 3 people.
It's part of the Sitton Peak/Bear Canyon Trail for the first mile then you cut off on Morgan Trail and then cut off on Tenaja Falls trail. Not the most scenic and I'm not fond of going up and down and up and down. I prefer doing all the work going up to a peak. No real peak here.
