You must park in the side of the road and walk across to the other side to get to the trailhead. The first part of the hike is heavily trafficked (we went on a Sunday) but once you pass a fork, most people went the other direction so the rest wasn’t so bad. No water for dogs. Very dusty. Elevation wasn’t difficult (I am not a novice). The view at the end was breathtaking. You can see all of Lake Tahoe. If you want to make the hike longer you could continue on the TRT but we just turned back.

Great hike on well maintained trail. Moderate amount of fellow hikers and some mountain bike riders. Trailhead parking was full by 9am, but parking along highway 267 was easy enough. Would highly recommend the steady climb up, the view was stunning!

Nice trail which I took to the spur view lookout point and then hiked further along. The first part was nice with views, but then it became more of a forest hike. I appreciated the shade.

A very well maintained trail with a marvelous view at the top. Also quite pretty meadows in the upper half. Definitely heavily trafficked - mainly the first mile as it coincides with the spur view trail hike. Coming down around noon had many other groups on last mile. Upper half of hike only saw a few others (9 AM start or so)

The trail was really fantastic. Well-maintained. A lot of people and dogs. Easy and kid friendly. Still some snowy parts about 3 miles in.

TL;DR A great hike to an amazing overlook! It's a little early in the year for this trail still. The trail disappears about 3.5mi in and the snow is still about 1.5' deep in spots. I managed to trudge through, but would highly recommend snow shoes for the next two weeks or so. It's an incredible trail though and I was able to spend about 3hrs completely immersed in the sounds of nature.

Did this hike early March, just after a large snow dump in the Sierra. The trail was easy to follow until about 3.5 miles in, when we lost it completely due to snow. However, we struggled up without snow shoes and were rewarded with the most stunning views of the lake. In current conditions I recommend being prepared for deep snow (like we weren’t).

Great trail! Around the 3.5 mile mark the trail was hard to find! Tons of ice throughout trail, so watch your step! Overall easy enough trail! :) Have fun!

We started at the TRT trailhead at Brockway Summit off Highway 267. Finished at the Tahoe Meadows trailhead. You have to cross the freeway here. Great hike, steady climb and gorgeous views.

As a beginner hiker I thought this was a great trail! The starting point isn’t well marked but I just parked where all the cars were on the side of the road and figured it out based on a few other comments on here. It’s all uphill for the first part of the trail so if you’re not use to the altitude make sure to take it slow. The views from the Spur Trail View are amazing and will give you a breathtaking view of the lake.

Great hike on well maintained trail! Note that Google maps won’t get you to the trail head. The trail head is on 267 and well marked. It was a beautiful day, many bees along the way. Highly recommend this as there are many wonderful views. Have fun!!!

Hiked with my dad and brother, I beat the scrubs to the top and made it up before all the other noobs. Good to do in the morning, gets hotter in afternoon.

8/2/19. Straightforward trail, lovely hike. Scenery is varied--pine forest, rocky peaks, wildflower-filled meadows, lake views. The view from the top of the spur trail is beautiful and worth the detour, but the view from the top of the TRT is far more spectacular, well worth the extra miles. Lots of other hikers between the parking lot and the spur trail; fewer beyond that. Go early to avoid the crowds.

Running

I had some difficulty finding the trailhead using Google Maps. Once I got going, it was great! Very dry conditions, rocky, steady incline, single-track, with some flat portions. Nice that you can turn around whenever you feel like it! Only saw two other people (both runners) the whole time.
