The trail starts in the parking lot of Skyline College. Lots of up and down in the beginning but it eventually smooths out a bit once you get to the ridge. The inclines can be a challenge and are pretty steep. When you get to the ridge if its sunny you will be rewarded with views of the San Francisco Bay on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. If its not sunny it is still enjoyable and the fog lends quite a bit of solitude to the hike. There is a monument along the way that commemorates the first time the Spanish saw the Bay (Portola Monument). The trail can be a bit muddy in spots and there isn't any shade but its usually pretty breezy up there due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean.

There should be a Trail Condition for “paved”. It’s one of those items people seem to love or not. The whole uphill/downhill section is a wide paved road (meaning hot, plus being on the windless bay side of the ridge). Paved reduces the stars for me, but otherwise it’s a nice, accessible city hike.

This trail was decent. Pros: Nice eucalyptus forests, views of San Andreas Lake when the fog clears. Cons: Tons of graffiti, paved roads that are run-down, crowds, and fog blocking the views. Plus no real destination. There are other much better hikes on the peninsula.

Trail was great especially with the need to socially distance. The paved portions was quite wide. Most people walking/hiking adhered to distancing and mask wearing. Most on bikes did not. It was cloudy/foggy so we had peek a boo views most of the morning but we were able to see was beautiful.

Hike was mostly on a paved road or fire road with no real destination or view. Extremely hot with no shade so it was a struggle for my dog.

We were there on a hot day and it was HOT. No shade at all. The highlight is the SF bay discovery site at the top. Otherwise, nothing special

Pretty trail. Easy to walk and you have such a great view of the bay.

Easy access from SF. Nice views of the bay, but not much else to see.

All paved fire road but closed to car traffic so awesome hike/jog trail. Steady long climb but not taxing at all. Great vibrant plant life that isn’t all dried out do the common fog out this way. Lots of little bunnies too.

Picked a beautiful day and the views to the south of San Francico including the airport in detail and the E. Bay and part of Christal Springs Resevoir were stunning. At the top the Pacific wasn’t too bad looking itself. Trail is actually an old paved road bending as it climbs. Gave me a solid challenging walk but my dog was unphased. Sides of the road had a fine smorgasboard of native plants in good health.

Not sure why the Alltrails description says forest because it's more like moor with a few eucalyptus trees. Not much shade. There is a little parking at the trail head. More than half is paved road but that makes the steep bits easier. Some very strong wind on the ascent. Absolutely stunning views of the Bay and the sea, hugely worth the climb.

about half of the trail is paved road and the scenery gets better when you get off the paved road. I took the horse trail back as it is more quiet and much less people. took me about 2 hours.

Nice climb to the top of the ridge although it is exclusively on a road; once you get to the trees at the top the trail gets a bit more interesting with a view of The Farallones. We walked the horse trail on the way back which provides for a more rugged experience.
