Getting There

This hike connects to the Sweeny Ridge which offers excellent views of the Pacific Ocean. This area can often have lots of coastal fog, be prepared for all situations. The Mori Ridge trail climbs steadily up through over 1,000 feet of height - some of which is steep enough to make a regular walking gait difficult, and only the most kamikaze trail runner would attempt. This trail is a perfect choice for an out-and-back trail, if you're planning to head back as the sun sets over the Pacific Ocean, and the unencumbered views are nothing short of stunning.

Park near the Shelldance Nursery

Approach on Route 1 from the South, pass the traffic lights at Reina Del Mar Avenue and just after the Pacifica Police station there's a very sharp exit onto a road which is signed for the Shelldance Nursery. (Remember to slow down & signal, because it really is a sharp exit!) At the top of the short windy road you'll reach the trailhead.

Gorgeous 360 views with a nice breeze at the top. First mile is quite steep. Many hikers carried or wore masks around their necks but didn’t put them on when passing? Please be considerate out there!

I hiked this at night to see the Perseid meteor shower and it was excellent. The trail being exposed would be punishing in the summer sun, but at night it means for open skies. I was also above the fog line and able to see Oakland, Richmond, SF, the Golden Gate Bridge, Pacifica and the Pacific. I didn’t use my headlamp but of course bring one and poles for the steep first and last 1.25 miles. Ignore my recording, I forgot to end my hike at the bottom

Uphill for the first 1.5 miles and it then flattens out. Views were obstructed due to early morning fog, pleasant hike nonetheless.

Mountain bikingGreat!No shade

The beginning of the trail is really steep and there isn’t a lot of shade. It also gets narrow in parts and there are lots of hikers so you need to go at off times and be watchful for them. It has great views of the ocean, south San Francisco, SFO and more. It also connects to a bunch of other trails which makes it great for exploring. Not my favorite trail so far but a great workout and doable even if you are beginner (assuming you’re willing to walk your bike on some of the steeper parts of the trail).

Great trail but it is NOT moderate. I would say it is Hard as it is a steep incline half way up. Great trail to do on a chilly day like today.

Like all the other reviewers said, it’s steep on the ascent for a little over a mile... then it flattened out. Sweeney Ridge is paved; and the views at the top are really nice - you can see SSF and SFO! Heading back down was an even better view of Pacifica. Pedestrian traffic was ok. Lots of masks but some without...

Parked next to the Shelldance Orchid center. First mile up is very tough but definitely worth it. The views at the top and on the way back down are breathtaking. Went midday on a Thursday (7/23). Saw a few other people so kept my mask handy, but it was light traffic. Saw about 12 people total.

This trail is easy to follow with plenty of signs to help... it does start off with the first mile being by far the steepest. Once you’re up onto the ridge line it’s much easier going. The views are ok - it’s great you can see both the bay (SFO area) and the coast (Pacifica), but both are in the distance. Also it felt like there weren’t many spots with good lookouts (most of the path has bushes obstructing the views) Overall it was a good trail for the exercise and well maintained trail but there are better views to be had on other trails

Dog friendly trail.. lots of parking. Good exercise trail.. it goes up, up, up for about 1.5 miles. Bring layers.. weather can change here very quickly! Personally, there are much better trails around Pacifica for better views. I do this one for the exercise.
