Oh my goodness I would have to say it was one of thee most beautiful, peaceful, well maintained trails we have ever been on. It was so breathtaking. Wildflowers still blooming and there was still water in the lake. Ducks with their babies! Couldn’t have asked for a better day.

This was my most enjoyable hike in more than a year and the only hike I've ever rated 5 stars on All Trails. I enjoyed the scenic green plateaus, bordered with pine trees, and mixed with ponds add colorful flowers. The route is especially nice in the late spring, when the grass is green and there is water in the ponds. The terrain was mostly flat and easy enough for my senior dog to handle. There was a wide variety of groups using the trail -- others with dogs, some on mountain bikes, families with small children, and experienced hikers. There are many alternative routes, some of which have no clear marking distinctions. For example multiple alternative routes have similar "Big Laguna Trail" markers, so it helps to have a map. I didn't hike any of the routes listed on this site, but this one was the closest. The main differences were I hiked up on the west edge of Big Laguna Lake via the Big Laguna trail instead of going on Sunset trail. And I veered over to Little Laguna Lake and the campground instead of going by the east edge of Big Lake Laguna. Both of these deviations were quite scenic. This route was slightly more than 8 miles.

Chains/No Chains...???? Sunny, Cool, Crisp Day w/3-4’ of Snow on the Trail Followed in the footsteps of others. Just a couple of miles felt like six, but still worth it for the beauty of the great outdoors!

It was a great hike/walk. There are a lot of loops so you don't have to do the full 8 miles if you don't want to. Lots of bicyclists on this trail, but everyone was courteous.

A good walking trail. More of a nature walk than a hike but good for distance walking. Somewhat crowded on weekends. Lots of mountain bike riders, most are polite and warn you when approaching. Not much elevation change at all. Views are mostly of the meadows and pines, not many scenic long distance views from the trail itself. Walking in there was a lot of strong winds on the west side of the loop so be prepared for that. We did see a couple of bikers that were blaring Drake music from some type of bluetooth speaker and filming themselves with a drone which sort of takes away from the quick mountain get away experience, but most people are friendly and polite. Plenty of parking along Sunrise HIghway, make sure you have an Adventure Pass.

We have been back each week & enjoyed seeing the lovely advance of spring with the tiny alpine flowers for the past 6 weeks. The mallards now are raising their broods on little Laguna lake. As are the Red Wings. We really enjoy the peace & beauty of this trail.

One of my favorite San Diego Trails. The loop around the meadow and the lake is beautiful.

barely half a mile after starting the hike, the trail was mostly covered in snow. May be a mile in, the trail opened up to a beautiful sunset view along with the gorgeous view of the valley. After which we took u turn to get back. no elevation for a mile or so.

Beautiful view of Downtown San Diego on this trail. Came across a bobcat on the trail near the lake. Busy trail as well with the mountain bikers.

Beautiful hike with not-too-strenuous of inclines. You could choose to take a shorter route back to the cars at multiple points throughout the hike. Some of the forks weren’t super clearly marked so having the app was handy. There is a fair amount of parking at the trailhead but I believe you need an adventure pass to park there which can be bought at the local convenience stores. Looked like a great trail to take dogs. I would highly recommend!

This is a mixture of Moderate while on the Sunset Trail and Easy while on Big Laguna Trail. The weather was perfect Sunday, March 27, 2017. Was nice to see lots of others out enjoying what beautiful backcountry San Diego County has to offer.

Fun, relaxing hike. Know the route before heading out. Signage is marked with numbers which mean nothing without a map. Saw one sign stating a trail name the whole 8 miles, plenty of markers though. Was windy and chilly. Bundle up :)

Saturday, May 21, 2016 I hike this trail with my great hiking friends, we had a small group but we had a great hike up to Manza Peak Benchmark! The start of the hike was very cold and stayed through to the peak! The wind was howling loud!! It was a rough & tough hike to the peak which required some bushwhacking & cairns markers to make our way through! The hike was well worth it! The view is breathtaking and the best of it all, signing the official Manza Peak Benchmark peak log! Approximately 2.43 miles to the peak. Afterwards, we hiked the Laguna Meadows & world famous, Pacific Crest Trail to get the most mileage of the hike!

This was an amazing hike with all the views to the west. Hiking through the tall pnes and stop on big rocks for snack breaks makes it an even better chill spot.
