Very nice trail but one very steep part. Lots of shade and very dusty. Limited bench opportunities so bring water. Many good doggos

Love this trail. Parking can be tough, get there early! Nice and shaded, pretty easy except for the incline at mile 1 but it’s good for you ;) Almost 8 miles round trip so it’s a decent distance and you’ll for sure hit your step goal. Nice views on the way up, glimpses of the bay. If it’s a clear day, once you get to the top, cut across the parking lot and go behind the Space Sciences Laboratory building for an amazing view of the bay.

Completed this trail on 6/14. Lots of people were wearing masks and of those who weren't, they pulled their shirt up while passing. One guy was defiant and told me not to wear my mask. Popular trail mid-morning and filters out by midday. Trail is wide enough to spread out to run and great to take dogs and kids. Only challenging part is steep incline in the beginning. Pretty good views of SF, GG bridge, and Mt Tam when fog lifted. I also took an offshoot where I saw the Oakland skyline as well. Trail was part shaded. Most disappointing part was finding out that the top of the trail was a parking lot and a building with no view. Parking at the bottom can be a pain because of the small parking lot.

Beautiful hike with beautiful views. I went on a Friday morning, so saw not many people. But everyone was wearing a mask. This trail is dog friendly.

Great hike! I went off trail and got higher elevation. If you want a steady running trail stick to the trail. Great views of the Bay Area.

A nice out and back in Berkeley. The path is wide the entire time. One steep section, but the rest is pretty flat.

Beautiful, must-see and do trail for visitors to the East Bay. Accessibility and views make this a no-brainer. First mile is a gentle ascent in a wooded forest but there is one steep part for about 100 yards that's shaded but a real leg-buster. After that a mild trail with good shade. You can cut 2 miles off this trail and make it a little over 5 miles if you walk to the end of the trail around the horseshoe-shaped out and back trail and instead walk to Grizzly Peak Rd. and then connect to Centennial Dr. back down to the parking lot. This way you can hit Lawrence Hall of Science as well as the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden while doing less miles. The only downside to this route is that you are walking along the side of a two way paved road but it's really not a big deal.

An oldy but a goody. I usually start down by Cal and either take the fire road up or cut up urban side with all those staircases. The southerly views from the top of the hike are great, but I always want ot push on

Easy trail. On the way back I climbed to the upper ridge trails and that have some nice views and some slightly more interesting hiking.

Delightful shaded trail through the woods. There is only one moderately difficult section of steep uphill walking, otherwise it is fairly flat and pleasant.

This is a decent stretch of dirt road that has a one or two steep stretches. Otherwise, I would rate this as "easy". Great nature walk close to the city.

Nice and wide for dogs to explore off leash, good amount of shade (~60%) so lots of spots to pause if needed. Great visibility on a clear day, can see Golden Gate Bridge.

A great alternative, shorter loop which gets all the views of the Bay. A few steeper sections, but mostly on the plateau. Not great when raining.

Went with A Friedman and Sequoia for 6mi on Sunday Presidents Day weekend 2018. Very muddy at parts from the rain, but the company was good. Not crowded. Not too challenging. Beautiful day!
