Uphill for a bit over 2 miles then downhill all the way pretty much. There was a bit of shade on the way down and it went through some grassy areas. Bring water and long pants to avoid the overgrown parts of the trail!

A nice easy uphill hike. It has lots of granite outcroppings. The trail starts by the campgrounds of Paso Picacho across the 79. Mainly consists of a couple sections of switchbacks as you climb the west facing side of the mountain. Towards the top you get a bit of shade from manzanita and sparse oaks. At the top, the large granite boulders have a stair case but you can scramble alongside as well. The peak is covered with flying ants that have infested the monument at the top and made it home. The back side grove trail did not have that much shade but had panoramic views to the north east, with Granite Mtn in the background and the meadows directly ahead! We mainly descended in the sun and crossed through meadows and single track trail. Lots of flowers and tall grass alongside the single track trail. We even saw a deer and plenty of chipmunks! 5.5 miles round trip! Pretty easy with lots of nature!

Great day hike! Took up stonewall trail from the parking/ picnic area and got to the top fairly quickly so we decided to take the long way home. Saw about 10 people coming up and no one on the way back. Little over grown in spots but could see the trail the whole time. About 90 with beautiful ocean breeze. Great time, good views at the top

This is an amazing hike that’s not very challenging. Views are wonderful and the trail is full of life. The only reason this gets 4 not 5 is that parts of the Cold Stream trail are actually that—a steam bed. It’s fin when it’s rocky but some sections are so concave that you can’t find a flat place for your foot to save your life! Other than that, epic! (Actually, epic is a big exaggeration. It’s more like, “I’m glad I did that. It was nice. But not feeling too accomplished because that was so easy. Great views tho.”) Note: This is a great place to take non-hikers to give them a really cool experience without so much work. Bring ‘em here. Get ‘em hooked. Then go big!

I completed the loop trail this morning - set out around 8:45 (a little later than I had planned) and finished around 11:30. Not difficult at all, never had to take a break to catch a breath or anything. Some really cool features on the way up and the way back down (this route) was nearly solo. The bugs were BAD. Plenty of shade on the way to the peak, a little less on the way back. You will need to pay for parking (no big deal) and no dogs allowed. Clean, only saw one trash item. I would definitely do this again - I would start earlier and try to miss fly season. (B)

Did 7.3 mile clockwise loop beginning at Trout Pond via Los Caballos to Peak then back via Cold Springs Trail. Not many people on the trail or even at the peak despite a sunny day high of 70 degrees. Lots of butterflies and very few flies. Still lots of greenery.

Great Morning Trail. It’s not too difficult and the 360 view from the peak is great. We did see a lot of flies in the area. Bug spray is recommended.

Really cool and quick hike. Def need bugspray because the flies are relentless. Don't eat pumpkin seeds before

Excellently trail with great views and a lot of variety. The top is really amazing with 360 views. Right now the flowers are really going off. This hike is definitely a perfect “moderate” hike. There’s some technical sections but mostly smooth. The grade is fairly steady until you reach stonewall, where it gets steeper. Bun all in all very manageable.
