Stonewall Mine and Lake Cuyamaca via Marty Minshall Trail is a 3.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Julian, California that features a lake and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and bird watching and is best used from March until October.
Though there is nothing at the trailhead saying anything about crossing on to lake property or a needed fee. This trail has you cross in to Lake Cuyamaca property for a short distance. There are signs posted about a mile in that says do not enter without paying the fee at the tackle shop.
Muddy and some parts flooded but still fun to explore. Snow on the ground.
Muddy and I’ll defined trail at the beginning when you go after the snow melts. Otherwise, well defined and easy trail. Still lots of snow on the ground in early February
Awesome trail while it was snowing. Small water crossing at the beginning.
Amazing nature walk. a few climbs, nothing to intense. We got snow flurries today, Jan 23 2021, and it made for a breathtaking walk. During the spring/summer there is a bathroom and little museum half way. Great for dogs and families. Clean hike with little trash or dog poop on trail. Deer and Mountain Lion evidence on trail.
We started this trail by the little trout pond. We’ve looked this hike up on many different sites but none say anything about a fee. About 1 mile in you come to a sign that says “fee area. Do not enter without paying first”. We called and were told you DO need to pay.
Lovely, flat, and easy. Good views of lake, meadows, and mountains. Single track trail. I missed the turn off for Stonewall Mine but you can add that too.
Beautiful trail. Great place for pictures and some kind wild animals. Nice and cold, easy walk.
nice! a bit muddy in November, but a little snow and mud doesn't hurt anyone. a few deadfalls we had to work around. nice fun trail.
