I would say 80% of the trail is uphill and the last quarter mile is a real workout! Not much shade on most of the route. Very beautiful view at the top!

Awesome trail. The first 1.4 miles the trail is narrow so be careful with people on bicycles or horses. It’s a pretty good workout. Rocky!

The Caballo Trail to the Sage Trail to Stanley Peak is actually 8 miles. It starts from the humane society. Parking is just before the gates and is all on dirt but there is plenty! There was a port-a-potty but just not sure if it was open. Trail is pretty dusty; very gradual and perfect for a trail run!

Great hike! Rocky trail but I'm not complaining! You can really get in touch with nature here, that's a plus. View at the top is worth it.

Great trail! Take note that it's really 8 miles, not 7.4. View from the top is great!

really liked this trail experience...hiked it but shared with mtn bikers. A lot of single track, rutted out areas. Did not see the rattlers discussed by others. Peak provided awesome views. Over pack water....gets hot on trail.

Great hike! Everything was green and flowers were in bloom and abundant April 12, 2019. Encountered a rattle snake, but navigated around it. Great rocks at the top to eat lunch and get a little sun!

Right away start climbing single track. Challenging short steep climbs up with some techy areas than it flattens out given you a break. However, did walk bike in some areas going up, Unridable - at least for me. Once you get on Sage it flows. Stanley Peak trail steep techy climb up as well. Walked bike some areas. View at top is beautiful. Fun ride downhill!

To reach the peak in 4.1 miles if you start at the trailhead next to the San Diego Humane Society. There is a large dirt parking lot with free parking. This trail/peak is part of Daley Ranch. We went on a cool morning and found this to be a pretty easy hike with mostly moderate incline or flat areas with just a couple steep segments that don't last very long. However, depending on the time of year and day that you hike this in I could see this being hard since there is very little shade and mostly exposed to the sun. The route we took was Cabrillo to Sage to Stanley Peak and it was 8.2 miles RT. There is a spot about .3 miles from the peak that has a pretty good ledge with dramatic drop off for a photo op. At the peak you are rewarded with some great views and there was a metal container with a notebook to sign if you wish or write a journal entry. Other details: 1,390 ft elevation gain, peak elevation is 1,976 ft, took us about 3 hrs to hike plus however much time you decide to spend at the peak, hiking poles not required (should be fine with shoes with good traction), and about 1-2L of water depending on the weather
