Good hike. Extremely steep in some areas. Too steep for carrying a 17lb baby on your back. Otherwise it would’ve been just fine. Great views. You can see from Walnut Creek to Lafayette at the top. Lots of going up and down. Take a right from the parking lot rather than going straight up the hill. There’s less steep climbing, and more downhill at the end if you choose to take that way around the loop.

I would recommend going right from the parking lot entrance, so you go up the buckeye trail part of the hike because it is very steep for a short/medium (ish) distance with small pepples that would be slippery going down. I recommend a hiking pole if you have one (optional). It has gorgeous views during the Lafayette Ridge portion of the hike so it feels very rewarding and is good exercise that can be done in a short period of time. It is perfect If you want to go on a nice hike but don't want to spend the whole day. Also in the lower part of the hike just assume all of the bushes on the sides are poison oak because 95% of the foliage is, but the path is wide so it isn't a threat if you stay on trail.

Beautiful views. I liked the steep hills at the beginning for cardio, but going back down is annoying because it’s very steep and slippery. I fell twice. Be careful of cows and snakes as well. Views are worth it and it is quiet and peaceful at the top.

This was a good one for a warm day. The trail is fairly well shaded and doesn’t have any serious elevation gain. It’s good if you just want to get out and get a little exercise - even could run it a couple of times.

The first half is all uphill. Pretty steep incline for a good distance. The rest is then downhill. Nice hike. Nice views on the top. Beautiful drive to the hike.

It's much more difficult than moderate. Most of the path is either very steep up or falling sharply down. Maybe good for high cardio load but very unpleasant for regular hiking

Pretty steep in the beginning but worth it with great views at the top. Turn to the right when at the fork otherwise you will end up on Springhill rd and have to walk the road back.

Pros: very little traffic and great views over the 680 corridor to Mt Diablo. Cons? BMX style terrain. If it was muddy it would be nearly intractable. Heck of a workout for 2.5 miles of trail in the East Bay.

Great hike. Steep ups and downs, great workout. Very well marked. Beautiful views. Well traveled path. Watch out for snakes... there was a rattler in the grass on the side of the path that I nearly stepped on. 50 minutes

Great hike! Beautiful! A little harder than expected, some pretty steep parts but few people and beautiful views are worth it! Great for dogs.
