It's a decent local hike. Great for dog owners. Since it's an Open Space Preserve, there are no trash bins for dog poop. This results in lots of owners leaving poop bags steaming in the center of the trail. The trail is very exposed to the elements, with limited shade cover on sunny days. great views of the Bay on clear days.

I believe the Spring Ridge Trail is part of a few trails that are also known as "Windy Hill". These trails lead your from Portola Road to Skyline. This is a mixed trail with shaded and non-shaded areas, maybe about 50/50. I did find parts of the trail challenging but not difficult. Bring a buddy, this is not as populated as other local trails.
