Including Rocky Point Loop
A lovely moderate hike. I hiked with a newby hiker so we didn’t do the extra 0.4 mile loop. Although a nice sunny day the trail is covered with a third of the way in ice. Mud in other areas due to snow melt. Suggest boots with grip, i.e. Vibram soles, to avoid slipping.
Beautiful trail with views of Black Butte and Mount Shasta. The trail is currently covered in snow and ice in several areas, including hills. I was able to hike carefully with waterproof hiking shoes. No need fit crampons but would recommend hiking poles. Bring a snack to enjoy the view from top. Also recommend taking the Rocky Mountain loop for additional nice views of Mount Shasta and a clear overlook.
Slick most of the way up, especially at the bottom, so allow a little extra time for winter hiking.
Great trail. We didn’t make it all the way up because we didn’t bring a carrier for my youngest, but the trail was nice and the views were beautiful. On a warmer day I think we could have made it with or without a carrier. Great trail.
Nice trail. Good little hike with a few breathtaking views.
It’s a steady grade up to the top, so you definitely work up a sweat. A good portion of the trail is shaded. Make sure you look for the vista points to get views of the valley and of Mount Shasta.
Very well marked trail, a continual climb from the start but nothing too steep. The views were spoilt by the smoke. The rocky point loop was overgrown in places.
