Split Rock Loop Trail is a 1.9 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Twentynine Palms, California that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round.
Joshua Tree National Park charges a fee to enter. Fees are $30 per vehicle or $25 per motorcycle. If you are entering on foot or bike the fee is $15 per person. You can also purchase a park specific annual pass for $55. This loop featuring rock formations, wildlife, and desert landscapes can be done in either direction. Make sure to take the extra side trip to see Face Rock; and make sure to bring water since this is an exposed hike.
Turn off Park Blvd into the Split Rock day use area.
Fun, quick, & easy loop with a nice variety of scenery. Every turn offers a feast for the eyes. Trail is marked and is easy to follow.
This is an easy trail, but super fun with great rock formations. I parked at Skull Rock which added distance but also added more formations and more magic. For my full trip report go to: https://nationalparkshikingpursuingbalancethruadventure.wordpress.com/2021/01/08/split-rock-loop/
Very easy trail. It was smooth and beautiful to look at. Lots of rocks sitting at times randomly and so great to see. I recommend hats and sunscreen no shade. If you do this trail was great in January. I probably avoid the late summer months. This trail is for all ages.
This trail was easy and a nice way to see the large rocks. It's very popular and crowded. Signs ask for it to be one way traffic during covid. However, many people seem to go the opposite direction which makes it a pain. We tried connecting it with skull rock which got fairly confusing so I'd recommend treating the two areas separately.
Easy trail but also easy to get off trail. Download the AllTrails map before you do it so you don’t get turned around!
This is a really great trail. It’s near skull rock. The loop is moderate and a great option for beginner hikers that want to see a bit of the park beyond the main road. You’ll definitely get a feel for what it’s like to be in a desert. Make sure to bring plenty of water, especially during summer.
nice easy rolling 2 miles. great boulders, washes, cacti and generally magical.
Nice 3 mi trail with boulders galore. Hardly saw anyone and this is a popular area because the trail can start at skull rock as well. Well marked trail with very little EG
I did the Split Rock Trail and tried doing the Eagle Cliff Mine trail. The Split Rock Trail has lots of nice scenery between the rocks and plants. It’s a good hike for families. The terrain is varied too, but it’s all easy. Eagle Cliff was a different story and I’ll leave that review in that hike.
