This is definitely not an easy trail. The beginning map says so, but it is nice. It was hard on the ankles coming back down.

Nice, low-key walk with a little bit of elevation. The rocky terrain on top is kind of fun. Very windy every time I’ve hiked this, however.

So I started the afternoon doing the Johnson Ranch Loop couple miles south of here off the 101. That was only about 3 1/2 miles and I wanted to get a couple more miles in so I just cited to do this one. This is one of the short easy trails in the middle of San Luis Obispo that I’ve been overlooking because her usual he like the trails that are rated intermediate moderation and have more mileage. So I came up here late in the afternoon and started the hike and realization it’s like it’s actually pretty rocky and technical in a lot of spots. And then I did a detour up at the first fork in the trail to the antenna tower. Then I went back down the Service Rd., Chris crossed the regular Once I was at the top I thought I could easily make my way down the other side to the back side of the loop trail. That wasn’t the case. I got lost and had to make my way through the rocks to get back to where the loop joined up just above the cattle fence. This is a very technical trail but the views the top of really nicepart of the loop trail and went to the top. MSteep, rocky, no cover. Barren. Some parts aren’t clear where the path is. Views are decent at the top of Ridge trail. Doesn’t feel like you really get out of the town. You can hear the traffic or construction most of the way.meadows park is beautiful little park

Really fast hike, the hills are charred from a recent fire, but the view was beautiful!

If there weren’t so many beautiful native flowers and grasses, I would be giving this trail a one star. The trail is heavily impacted by the construction making it much less enjoyable. As well as the trails not being well-marked. I got lost at the connection between the ridge trail and back to the main trail due to the lack of signage and care of the trail. Going to have to check extensively for ticks when I get home due to the overgrown grasses on the sides of the small trail. Would not recommend bringing dogs.

Your kids will love this rock climbing trail! Super rocky but fun landscape. If you go to the right 1st if pretty steep up to the one towers. My son was able to run right up. Once you hike up in goes down and loops around to a really rocky part. Watch your step and enjoy.

I’ve done part of this trail for a quick after work workout about a billion times, but never the full thing until today. Boy have I been missing out! It’s very muddy right now, but navigable in some waterproof boots if you don’t mind getting a little messy. Lots of wild flowers already and great views of the green hills around slo!

Park in small street adjacent to trailhead. This is an easy to moderate hike depending on trails you follow. You can make as difficult as you want by going uphill to the ridge but it is all rock. I started at 4 and it was warm but there was a breeze which kept it cool. You would really want rock boots for the ridge part of this trail, it is all rock. The back side of trail, to the south, is all construction of a new housing tract so this part of the trail is not a pretty one for half of it. Of the trails I have done in San Luis Obispo, this is the least maintained. Virtual Treadmill video of this hike can be seen on my YouTube Channel, copy and paste link below to watch it.
