We ride this often to get in some mileage. Try to take the road up against the hills rather than the winding beach path to avoid inexperienced pedestrians and beach-goers. You can take this other all the way down to Redondo Beach.
If you'd like an easy and peaceful early morning stroll, it's perfect. If you're up for a challenge I would choose another trail. Worth it, but not a great workout.
For cyclists, there was a lot of pedestrian traffic which means quite a bit of stop and go keeping you focused primarily on the trail and away from all the great things going on around you. Also, this is an 8mph path so if you're hoping to make time, you might want to find something elsewhere. Otherwise, it's the beach. The fresh air, the colorful citizenry... That's just a plain good time.
Easily one of the best bike paths in SoCal.
