The country around and above Sonora Pass is sublime. Few other Sierra trailheads along the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) launch the hiker into such vast, wild grandeur within so short a walking distance from the road head. Wilderness permits required for overnighters.

Amazing day hike. Highly recommend!

This was an amazing day hike. Wildflowers are still abundant while the streams have slowed but still flowing from the snow melt. No mosquito issues at all. We hit the trail around 8am, had lunch at Latopie and back to Sonora Pass around 4pm. We even braved a dip in the frigid lake.

Although there is decent elevation gain, it does feel fairly gradual. The wildflowers are amazing right now! I loved this hike. I’ll definitely do it again!

I absolutely loved this hike! Still some snow bridges to cross but the views and wildflowers are spectacular! It was a perfect hiking day. The hike down to the lake is pretty much all shale so kind of slippery but so worth it! This is probably one of my top 3 High Sierra hikes so far! Highly recommend it. Starts out at over 9600 feet so it’s good to be acclimated first. The trail is gradual up and down and around the mountains and very well maintained.

Stunning ridge line views. The best section of the PCT I've ever hiked. If you want to know the best day hike on the PCT, this is it!
