Yes, this is one of the highest mountain passes and most beautiful in California. At the peak is a parking area and trail head. I love to ride over it on my motorcycle and have hiked to Sonora Peak from the parking area. Remember the Hwy is closed in the winter and sometimes does not open until June or July depending on snow levels. This is not a good road for heavy trailers or motorhomes as portions become very steep and winding as you near the summit.

Truly the gateway to adventure! Whether from the east or from the west, this scenic mountain pass offers everything. If you're able, Sonora Pass by snowmobile is the way to go. Pack stations offer endless miles of horse trails. Also through Chipmunk Valley rock climbing and unbelievable vista hikes. Fishing and hunting opportunities are around every corner.
