Definitely needs some leg strength to get to the top but it’s worth the struggle

Moderately steep all the way to the top. Some areas have gravel so be careful on the way back down.

Trail is very short and uphill. Not that steep but also not for slackers. I would recommend combining it with another hike due to how short it is. Definitely check out Hawk Hill while you’re up there. Check the fog conditions before you go because visibility could be an issue.

Nature tripsGreat!

Another lovely place to watch the sunset :) especially when a full moon is rising. Come at least an hour prior sunset (elevated trail took me 30mins to get to the top plus 15-20mins if you want to trek to the bottom hill... might take you an hour and a half if you have trouble looking for parking). I took the Coastal trail entrance route.

Nice hike with beautiful sceneries during the first 3 to 4 miles. After that, there is not much to see until you get to Slacker Hill with amazing views of the Golden Gate Bridge and city! The map is also off track at 7 miles to Julian Trail. I ended up walking on the road to connect to Julian Trail. Overall, the hike was okay!

SERIOUS incline up —the whole way up— and very exposed w sun beating down a bit even in November. Summit gives views of the Golden Gate, SF + Oakland, the bay, the ocean, and Marin Headlands. Wide trail and lots of space on the top so a ton of people could be out and still appropriately social distance for Covid.

Another fun loop around the Headlands. The trail is a bit exposed, but the weather was cool and the sun did not bear down on us too much. The weather can change quickly, so take layers. The side trips to Black Sand Beach and Slacker Hill added to the vertical, but both were well worth it. Wish we had more time at the various spots, but that's another reason to come back.

Great trail, as others note, listening to the fog horns throughout the hike was a really cool effect. We started at the Lagoon and it was 55 and foggy as hell, as we made our way counter clockwise (we recommend it) around the loop, once we got on the hills the fog disappeared and left us with lots of sun and beautiful partial fog views of the bay area. It was so cool to be above the fog but still see the SF skyline and GGB sticking out. Be careful to follow the Julian trail if you go counter clockwise, the gps on this trail is slightly off and the trail junction comes up before the initial split onto Julian (right before you cross the road). In the middle of the loop a lot of trails start to cross each other, so just watch out to take the one you want. We included a steep . 2 detour up Slacker's Ridge, which was 100% worth it, that was the most amazing view on the whole trail. Definitely take that detour. In general, gorgeous views along the trail, this one was fun.

Good hike but not a lot of shade! Ended up also walking down to Black Sands beach which added a lot of elevation.

It was beautiful and not too hot. We encountered quite a few folks at the beginning but took some lesser known trails to avoid them. Too many covidiots on hill 88 and on the coastal trail near rodeo beach. And of course on the beach

Went on a foggy day in August 2020. Couldn't see anything at the top because of the fog, so this one needs a clear day. Gotta be neutral and give it a 3 because it's probably beautiful if you can see something. It's an easy trail, steep in sections. We went with a toddler who walked by herself in the flat parts and we carried her through the steep parts.
