I did this trail today 09/05/2019. I went clockwise and added a side trip down to Kirby Cove and back. The views of the bridge, the bay, the ocean, and the city are awesome. It will be cold and windy on Hawk Hill and Slacker Hill so be prepared. Heavy fog can roll in at any time so be aware that if you're unlucky enough to be in a fog bank you may not see a thing. My trip counting Kirby Cove came in at 9.2 miles and 2031' of climbing. Not a bad way to spend a few hours. Note 1: If you go counter-clockwise as Alltrails shows you have to climb about 700 feet of steps up the west side of Hawk Hill. Note 2: As others have noted about half or more of this hike is walking along a paved road or walking a fire access road. Not much of this hike is an actual back-country trail. Note 3: The Conzelman Road leg of this hike will be crazy with tourists. Just remember you're one of them.

The spectacular views are muted by having to walk along the road for half the trail. Don’t park where the map indicates - you have to walk along the highway to get to the trailhead. Park on Conzelman Road. There are a bunch of turnouts on the road. It’s also very crowded along sections. I prefer true hikes that don’t involve highways.

Dd the trail counter-clockwise, had lunch on slacker hill. No one was around, really nice. Most of the first half of the trail is fire road, the second half of the trail is basically walking along side the road. Yes, beautiful views, just an fyi

Parking: parked at trailhead parking on west side of bridge about 11:30. Took slacker hill to hawk hill, with a detour to black sands beach, which I would definitely recommend if the weather is nice! Nice ups and downs - enough to get a workout but not enough to kill you. Gorgeous views of the golden gate and Marin headlands. Would take the loop counter clockwise -you end with a gentle 2 mike descent with beautiful views. Nice way to end the hike!
