Hike up to Summit rock via the Summit Rock Loop Trail. Enjoy the stunning views from Summit Rock. Pets are allowed on designated areas and on leash.
Park at the staging area off of Skyline Blvd
Took the loop counter-clockwise for immediate elevation. Packed dirt/rock trail. Once you split off to the rock, you can climb it to see beautiful views of mountain, and a touch of the city in the distance. Nice quick workout with views to boot. Didn’t see too many people on a sunset walk.
Nice little work out definitely park on the street great view at the top
loved it, parking fills but there's spots alongside the road both ways to park if needed.
Great little hike with all shade. The lookout was closed for bird breeding season.
I recommend using bug repellent before you go. There are lots of bugs. We went on a Friday late afternoon, and there was no one. We had a kindergartner and a toddler in our group, and we finished in 1.5 hour. Summit rock is closed during COVID. Since there’s so much bug and the summit is closed, I don’t think it’s worth going.
Took our 3 year old and he was very happy with the hike. It has easy elevation gain and drops throughout. Very shaded. Some good logs here and there to sit for a snack. The trail is pretty wide in the main loop. Close to the parking lot, there are some big rocks that were fun to climb around on. Since the lot is small, we actually parked in the Castle Rock parking lot, which does require payment. The whole adventure took about 2 hours at preschooler pace.
Nice trail but the lookout was closed and there were a lot of flies. Otherwise shaded , good in hot weather .
Summit portion of trail is closed. Loved the scenery and chilly mountain air.
I’ve done this trail during the rainy day in May and it is beautiful. It feels like rain forest somewhere in a jungle. I parked by the entrance to the Indian Rock and took that path. It is not marked on the map, but trails merged and it adds up 0,5miles to the main trail. I would recommend to do that piece! I rated hike as 4 stars as I was hoping to get up and see view from Summit rock point and it is closed, but it looks available in All trails map. Was a little bummer.
It’s a great, beautiful trail. Lots of inclines and declines so prepare to break a sweat. We loved this “shorter” hike. However if you are trying to actually go to Summit Rock, it is currently closed off. No notice for when that might change. So just prepared for a loop and not much of a viewpoint. As of 4/27/20.
Good short hike. There is a gun club nearby, so the sounds of shooting through the trees was a little unnerving and very obnoxious. I took my dog and I couldn’t really navigate the rock with him to see the views. Otherwise though, it was moderately challenging and moderate in length which is what I was looking for.
Nice short hike. Relatively easy for dogs. The view from the summit is worth it.
Took my dog here in the morning and found it was really quiet and nice. It is however difficult to find being that it is right next to castle Rock state park. There are ALOT OF FLIESand I had no idea when I web. It is properly shaded and a very nice hike otherwise.
Summit only open Saturday and Sunday. Otherwise a nice shady hike!
