Absolutely beautiful trail that goes through the forest, passes Emerald Lake, and ends in a lovely meadow. Park at Coldwater Campground and enter at the Emerald Lake trailhead. There are toilets available within the campground. Parking was wide open at 4pm, but probably busy otherwise. About halfway up the trail, you'll see a sign for Sky Meadow. The trail itself is very nice. Packed dirt with some exposed rocks and tree roots, but easy on the feet. Plenty of shade. Mosquitoes are active, since there is a brook, waterfall, lake, and still water on this trail. We did get slightly turned around on the return from the meadow, so pay attention to the trail. There are NO trail markers. Also, this hike is closer to 4 miles total.

Fantastic scenery! Had the trail to ourselves, except for a marmot and a few pikas.

Great trail if you are looking for a 2-3 hour hike. Most of the trail parallels a stream and goes through pine forest so it’s cool and shady. It’s also mostly uphill but only a few sections are moderately steep. Not too many trail markers but the trail is well defined. Trail passes by Emerald Lake and a nice waterfall. The high meadow where it ends is just below the tree line and you can continue climbing if you want to scramble.

I was up there 8.10.2019 and there were not many mosquitos unless you’re standing around Emerald Lake. I did some fishing, but didn’t catch anything. No snow. Bring water, sun block and bug repellent. There’s a free parking lot next to the trailhead but if it’s full, you’ll have to hike an additional mile or so through a campground. Beautiful scenery, I recommend keep hiking to Skeleton Lake.

I had A few hours to kill and couldn’t go all the way thru. Beautiful and quick hike to Emerald Lake. The creek alongside the trail makes this so lush and scenic. From a time perspective, I made it to the Rock with the Orange stripe and decided to turn back and save this for when I have more than 1 hour. Lots of bugs when you get to the Rock. See picture.

Trail was hard for us to follow, became lost a couple of times. We are beginners so might chalk it up to that. Overall great hike though the elevation got to us a bit.
