Didn't make it all the way to the beach our first time through. Great day hike to get to the overlook and lunch though. We went in early May and it was quite wet in a few spots but nothing we couldn't slog through. There's also a lot of roots in the trail so you've got to watch your step and pause when you want to look up at the beautiful trees. Great scenery all along the trail and a nice view down to the beach at the part before the trail to the beach. I think the mileage might be a bit off though, and longer than the signage claims. Hopeful to make it back soon and plan for an hour to rest at the beach before heading back. Or having a pick-up planned at Gold Bluff Beach!

Great hike! Longest trip with the baby on my back and it was gooood! Made it all the way to the beach for lunch and then headed back. Really beautiful and highly recommended .. You don't have to be an avid hiker for this .. Just one foot in front of the other for quite some miles :)

Great hike for us baby boomers. Redwoods, ferns, etc. We went all the way to the beach which made it 10.5 miles round trip. We were amazed to find 20 plus elk bed down on the beach when we arrived and they kept us company as we ate lunch. Watch out for tree roots on certain parts of the trail! Also one walking bridge was partially collapsed but posed no problem getting across.

Actually 10.5 round trip when going on to the beach access site. It is well worth it. We were greeted by the sight of over 20 elk bed down on the beach and, as we ate our lunch, they nonchalantly grazed around us. The trail is very scenic, (redwwods, ferns) and was a quite a work out for us baby boomers. Careful of the roots in some sections as inattention may result in a spill.

This is definitely a moderate hike. There are tree roots that you have to be careful not to trip on and a bit of a climb to the overlook. We turned around at the overlook but you can continue on to the beach.
