I think Butano is such an under-known park. We did this hike yesterday and literally only saw two other people in a 4 hour hike. This hike is truly a perfect moderate hike - ya go up for a it, then it’s flat for awhile. Also perfect for a hot day as mostly covered. i have dine this hike twice and both times got a little lost hear the end - we ended up coming down the fire road which was fine. As others have said, bathrooms are gross and there was no water at spigots near bathroom so bring water. Still a very lovely hike.

Very nice trail. Is more like 10 miles. Wear hiking shoes cause the trail is very narrow along the edge of the hill and lots of loose gravels. Well shaded. The only part no shade is the Olmo road and very steep, but the view is amazing. No restrooms along the trail, and the main restroom at the beginning of the trail, is awfully stinky.

Moderate 10 miles hike, signs not great but acceptable, lots of shades, very pleasant. not crowded. state parking fee $10, plenty of them. the only bad comment is the bathroom at the parking lot, horrible condition!!!

Beautiful hike but stats are incorrect. More like 11 miles, bridge needs working on and restroom needs major cleaning it was horrid! Disguising even! This can be a heath issues for some. 8 miles and 11 miles is a big difference.

It’s absolutely beautiful- highly recommend this trail but would like to point out that it’s closer to 11 miles and not 8.1 miles. We went in early July, and there were definitely mosquitos but not too bad (just one bite!).

Really nice will return again. I went counter-clockwise. Stubbed my toe three times in the last 1.5 miles on camouflaged roots and small poorly trimmed stumps. This slowed my pace and required me to keep my eyes more on the trail and less on the incredible scenery.

Challenging on the uphill with a few switch backs over drainages. Mile 5 is when you hit Doe Trail to Goat Trail - a gentle down hill with lazy S turns. Footing was solid for narrow trails. I’m excited to check it out again.

Great trail. There are a few short sections of the trail that look like they could wash out with a good rain or two so might avoid around then. Tons of shade and enjoyed walking through the trees. Very little traffic

Arrived before 10 on labor day and there was some parking available. There is parking near the trail-head past the first restroom. We did this clockwise and it provides a nice gentle slope up so as not to be too strenuous. Lots of redwoods, shade, and slugs. I can see that in the winter there may be running streams but not at the end of summer. Overall, beautiful, quiet, not many others, and cool. A moderate hike due to length (add the walk from the first bathroom and we did about 9 miles).

At the end of the driveway to the campground, you can also go straight on the service road through a gate. Soon you’ll see the path from campsite merges in, followed by a signage post to goat hill trail on your right side.

Awesome hike. Lots of great redwoods and a nice flowing creek.

Great hike...super quiet....saw no one else on the trail. Gorgeous towards the end where you're walking through lush hip high greenery.

Really serene and smells wonderful. saw a small group of deer and it was super quiet! Loads of salamanders and banana slugs!! I kinda wish I had brought a friend because I saw after hiking that there are mountain lions here..and it seemed the sort of territory one may encounter one
