Nice scenic trail that offers great views of the valley below from 10,000 feet up. Rock formations and plants along side a pretty good size shelf road. The trail terrain itself is easy, no major obstacles, however it takes some good driving skills and careful speed around corners. It’s steep at parts and is easier in low gear 4x4. Multiple creek crossings so be aware of the water level. Overall took us about an hour to go down from the summit into Bishop. Would recommend this trail and would do it again. Especially to get up to the Bristlecone Forest.

Ran this from the Bishop side, West to East. Our trail rig was out of service but we didn't want to waste the day so we opted to set out in our Mercedes SUV (GL 320). We figured if it got too rough we could always turn around. It didn't. The Mercedes does have some electronic off-road features and the ability to raise a few inches over its normal height, but it is definitely not an off road vehicle. With street tires, about 12" of clearance, and whatever all wheel drive system the car has, we never really had any issues. I did enjoy the looks we got from others coming the other way. Beautiful views. Switchbacks can be intimidating when you cannot see what is beyond, but once conquered you find they were not that difficult. We enjoyed it.

trail was very easy going down, very steep in some areas but just keep it in low gear. would love to take this trail again but start in Bishop going up seems like it would be a little more fun and exciting. loved the trail though.

Impassible at the moment on the Hilltop you run right away into 3 feet snow drifts and later on a few hundred feet into more than 7 feet of snow drifts on the road, A snowcat just started cleaning up there the roads that day when I was up there, I talked to the driver and he told me even the snow at had issues driving through the 9 feet snow drifts. So you can go up from Bishop side but no way down on the other side at the moment and now it snowed again or will even more...

Great views and absolutely exciting for a first timer. Definitely a low gear experience coming down. 5-6 water crossings over a light running creek.

This trail crosses a creek at least six times, went in July with 105+ degree heat so stopping a couple of times to soak your feet and wet a towel makes this an added plus. The trail starts out with a very subtle incline until about the 6 mile mark when it begins to climb fairly steep with many switchbacks. rock formations and views are fantastic!

Easy but steep 4wd track. Terrific views from the switchbacks. Take the alternate route near the top for a more challenging finish.
