Shelf Road Trail is a 3.5 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Ojai, California that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from March until November. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
It was a great hike. Highly recommend going in the morning - not much shade on the trail. Be sure to stop at the benches, near the mid point of the trail, to enjoy the view.
90 degrees by 8am made the hike extremely strenuous. I’d avoid this hike in extreme heat. Otherwise the loop would be pleasant on a cool day
Ok hike along a fire road with nice views of the Ojai Valley. Pretty easy - saw several young kids and dogs. There was a 5 gallon jug of water and a bowl at the end of the trail. This hike is a little too close to civilization for my liking. one side of the trail is fenced off backing up to orchards and people's back yards, the other side is mostly open space wilderness with some side trails leading up to small peaks. not much shade except last 1/4 mile is shaded by overgrown avocado trees. If going in summer, best to start early and bring water.
Recommend going super early in the morning. 99 degrees outside no shade. Lots of bugs.
easy smooth and clear dirt pathways. dog friendly on leash amazing views of the ojai valley
