This trail is a paved road that is gated off to cars. It goes from the parking area at Shaver Lake to Dinkey Road. You can pay $5 to park in the paid parking lot or park for free in the free lot. It is 10.5 miles one way to Dinkey Road, and 21 miles if you go to the end and back. Along the way there are lots of wooded side trails that go down to the lake. There is also a short detour to the power station tunnel. It is about 4.5 miles to the power station. This is a good point to turn back if you don't want to hike all day. The side trails all have signs and are well marked. The whole trail is well shaded in the morning/afternoon and is very cool. It is an easy trail.

Did this today and the weather was great, very shady the whole way. There were a few spots that were easy to get down to the lake. It did start raining so we had to turn back early but we will definitely go again! The parking fee is actually $8. The pay station is down the hill to the left of the boat dock. After driving a little, there are three off roads that lead to a lot to park in or you can drive all the way up to the trail head and park if there is room. We parked at road 1 and walked a little more than 1/2 mile up to the trailhead.

This trailhead is not marked correctly IMO. You can start from the parking area and walk up to the road. Then walk a 1/4 mile upthe road until you get to the Edison gate where the trail actually begins. Or you can drive all the way to the gate and hope you get one of three spaces right off the road. If you dont want to pay the day use fee you could also walk the road all the way from the pay station. Great paved road walking lake adventure hike.

An easy and enjoyable hike on a hot summer day. This trail is paved and shaded and had lots of side trails down to the lake. We hiked to the power station and turned back at that point making our total distance hiked around 9 miles.
